Is it all over Alberta?

Our The Racing Horse talked to Jonjo about Don’t Push It and asked whether he could win another Grand National. The answer was that he is wrapping him up in cotton wool. He told us: "I thought about running him at Aintree last weekend but he is so fragile that I dare not risk him and he will be a 12-year old come April."

Don't Push It at home...

Albertas Run has been one of the best runners in Jonjo O'Neill's yard and one of two winners for the champion jockey AP McCoy at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Regretfully he may have run his last race. The trainer said that he has not given up hope that his stable star will attempt to win the Ryanair Trophy for the third year running, in March, but warned that a recent setback might spell the end of the gelding's career. Listening to Jonjo’s voice we think he has run his last race but desperately want to be wrong!"

Albertas Run suffered an injury to a suspensory ligament shortly before he was due to run in the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park last month but has done some light work at Jackdaws Castle. At this moment his trainer will try and get him ready for one last spring festival at Cheltenham and at Aintree, where he also won a Grade One event last season.

Jonjo said: "He's not too bad and he's scanning good. The treatment seems to be working, touch wood, but we'll scan month by month and see how we go. He's actually swimming again now, so we're getting there but it is far too early to say. We do know how to handle him and we've got all the facilities here so, if we can get him there, we will."

He continued: "Ideally we would like to give him a run before Cheltenham if we can. The injury is right in front of the knee. We might get him back or he might never run again, we just do not know! It was a slight injury but you're either pregnant or you're not and it's a suspensory at the end of the day. It is worrying and it's not an easy programme but we'll give it our best short. He does love the spring sunshine and he loves good ground."
