The Allensmore Experience Finale!

There were lots of close finishes and some fine individual performances at Allensmore yesterday and the excitement never relented throughout the day! During the diverse 11-race programme driving skills were very much in evidence and reflected in the competitiveness of the racing. For example, the results of 10 of the last 11 races were determined by a length or less, 2 of those by less than ½l and incredibly 4 of the races were decided by distances between a nose and a short-head!

Nathan Strickland keeps his cool to land hot race!

Nathan Strickland took top honours and was seen at his very best driving Kindly Holly when keeping a cool head to win the Christine Hammond Memorial Maiden Mile Division 2. He was passed by on the far side but refused to get into a duel, he kept his cool and pounced again in the straight to win. The consensus by many experienced drivers watching was if he had gotten into a fight the 4yo mare would have been beaten, especially given the result and its small margins. Kindly Holly won by a nose and a head in 2m.12.7 and rates the best professional drive of the day!

Fortress Wellfield continues to build...

Fortress Wellfield notched another hat-trick of wins with Wellfield Earl, Wellfield Bruce and the 8yo Wellfield Benny meeting the judge. The drive of Terry Laventure on the latter in the 'Young Will Challenge Trophy' took the eye as he had to be spot on with his fractions to deny Jason Podmore driving the 8yo grey Ayr Hero, who many thought finished over the top of him. Jason thought he had nicked it on the post and was ahead one stride after the line.

Mattriarch

Mattriarch wins the Christine Hammond Memorial Trophy in some style!

The Christine Hammond Memorial Trophy for the fastest maiden of the day went to  Elwyn Lloyd-Jones' beautiful 4yo grey mare Mattriarch, driven by his son Dylan. She was visually impressive coming from last to first and though only winning by a length did it with some comfort! Lou Evans, who had been a good friend of the very special lady, presented the trophy to connections.

Mark Pritchard goes close to a winning treble

Mark Pritchard notched a wining double and went close to landing a treble. He won on the 6yo mare Dizzy Miss Lizzy in the Chris & Muriel Jenkins Memorial Members Trophy leading most of the way for owner Nigel Lewis (2m 5.7) to win by a length. He followed up on the exciting 3yo colt Coalford Tetrick in the Sheila Baker Grade 1 Pace winning by 3l in a time of 2m 3.2 which was the fastest time of the day. The driver was denied his treble when finishing second beaten 1/2l in the www.racinghorse.co.uk Grade 1 & 2 Handicap Pace. Our race was won by the 5yo Meadowland Maverick and driven by Colin Bevan in a time of 2m 8.4

Jessica Dyer holds on to win the Alan Plant Memorial Trophy

Jessica Dyer driving the 10yo Caenwood Slipaway deserved much credit for holding off the sustained challenge of Trevor Connors and Lakeview Eagle all the way down the home straight to get home by a short-head. She was certainly determined to win the Alan Plant Memorial Trophy for C Class Drivers and her delight was for all to see, she did so in a time of 2m 12.2.

Dylan Connors

Dylan Connors a star of the future!

But the drive of the day surely belonged to nine year-old Dylan Connors when piloting Top Girl in the Mac McArthur Junior Sulky Race at Allenmsore. He looked the part and the young champion got a rousing reception from an appreciative crowd. The Racing Horse wishes him all the success for the future.
