The Racing Horse applauds the Tregaron Trotting Club for their efforts in staging this bonanza-laden celebration but also in the manner in which they have kept all informed. Because of the abysmal weather some difficult decisions had to be made quickly regarding fixture restructuring and the club have acted with pragmatic swiftness: "Due to the poor weather forecast for this week, Tregaron Trotting Club decided to reduce the August Festival to two days of racing to be held at Dolyrychain Farm, Tregaron. We feel this is the most sensible option and are informing owners, trainers and drivers early that there will only be racing on Friday and Saturday. We apologise for the inconvenience, but feel that we have no other option as we try to ensure that we still have 2 days of high quality racing."

The Racing Horse spoke to Huw Evans (Chairman) direct from the course this evening and he enthused: "The ground is looking brilliant and there are no worries at all about racing. Yes, we will have a shower but it looks as though the worst is behind us. We will host two days of championship racing that is a promise to rival anything the National Hunt boys can throw up!"

This was the information all enthusiasts wanted to hear. This top quality racing is referred to as the Cheltenham of harness racing as it draws the best horses from across Britain and Ireland to battle for honours and big prizes. To lose this golden fixture would be heartbreaking whilst losing lustre if transferred.

For those not able to attend Ifan Jones Evans will present the coverage on S4C. Wyn Gruffydd and Gwenan Thomas will provide the commentary on Friday whilst Megan Taff, who has won The Welsh Classic Race twice, joins Wyn on Saturday. Former Grand National winner, jockey Hywel Davies will be getting the latest tips from the bookies and insights from the drivers, as well as hearing the views of harness racing fans.

The Friday afternoon programme, which starts at 2.30 includes live coverage of the Strata Florida Cup heats, while the programme at 5.30 follows the action from the Standardbred Sales Co. Battle of The Big Guns, the Junior Welsh Dragon 2 year old series and the Strata Florida Cup Final. The Welsh Classic Heats and Final, and The Little Welsh Dragon for three year old horses are just some of the highlights on Saturday.

There will be English commentary on the red button service or the audio selection option, with Raymond Jenkins and Darren Owen. On both days, there will be a break between the two afternoon programmes on S4C, but coverage of the races will continue on the S4C website.

How to get there: The half mile grass track is at Dolyrychain Farm, on the West side of B4343, 5 miles North of Tregaron & just South of Pontrhydfendigaid. It takes a little over 20 minutes from the centre of Aberystwyth. The first race each day is usually 2pm but would need to be checked closer to the time as the television coverage can and does dictate matters.
