Tregaron host an excellent 12-race card for the re-arranged meeting Sunday 15th May2016. The latest news from Huw Evans (Tregaron Trotting Club Chairman) is that the track will be in perfect condition with the current going officially good. With the weather set fair it should provide an enjoyable day for all concerned. The Racing Horse will be there to enjoy the spectacle, please look out for our review of the meeting to be posted here on Monday.

The Racing Horse looks at just some of the contenders and it promises to be competitive!

The highlight of the day must be the Senior Welsh Dragon which is set up to find out how the top 3yos from last year have trained on. Coalford Tetrick will start favourite as he was very impressive in winning the Little Welsh Dragon in the August Festival last year but he will not have things all his own way. Frisco Frisk won the Little Welsh Dragoness at the same meeting so she will represent the ladies whilst the Laidler team are double handed. They send recent Tir Prince winner Ayr Major and Mikey Camden so significant that Rocker himself has chosen to drive the latter as opposed to a recent winner.
The Free For All sees a couple of local heroes battling it out once more in Meadowbranch Josh and Foolaround who will both benefit from a run in Tir Prince over the week-end but Stamp Hill loves this track and will be a serious danger, whilst Wellfield Official has a live each-way chance.
The Spring Handicap has thrown up two very competitive heats. In the first heat Alexander Camden, in the hands of Michael Lord, is an obvious choice following a tough win in Tir Prince but the connections of Burning Dust have put up William Laidler Jnr (C class driver) to drive. Burning Dust gets a two grade lift in the handicap, which equates to an apprentice allowance in the thoroughbreds, and this makes him very competitive.
In the second heat there are several seasoned campaigners. Beacon Spellbound is well drawn, Wellfield Earl and Ayr Hero will make their mark but following an excellent win at the week-end I'm Impartial Too could follow up with a quick double before winning the final as well!
There are some excellent maidens on show, Southside Jubilee has made a very long journey to race here in Tregaron, Ffaro looks the banker of the meeting, Blue Desperado should take the Novice and Mattriarch and John Barley Could provide two local winners in the grade 1/2 races.
This leaves the Le Trot race which sees Robec making a return to the track after 12 months off. He was a very impressive winner here in August 2014 and if back to that form will not be bothered by his 20 yard trail. Tenor Meslois has the best record of the new intake of French trotters and could benefit from a good draw.
The first race is at 2.00pm though best to get here nice and early to see the Qualifiers who start racing at 1.00pm.
Huw Evans (Chairman) will be giving us a going update later tonight and we will post that news here. If any reader has any further information they would like to share please post to paulmoon@theracinghorse.co.uk and we will share with fellow enthusiasts. Our intention is to promote our sport and request help.
Update Saturday night: We are looking forward to a massive crowd for tomorrow and the ground is good to firm so will be perfect for all concerned – Huw Evans. The Chairman took this most recent picture and we have placed it at the end of the piece...
Jackie Maguire will be at Tregaron, she has a couple of runners but will also be running more samples through the Blood Gas Analyser to ensure integrity is kept up to scratch. We will talk more about this subject in the coming weeks but it is satisfying to know that the races will be monitored and fair to all.
We are also pleased Sarah Thomas is attending. She naps Mattriach in Race 8. Her lively and incisive views always make for good reading. The Racing Horse shares a lot of her views on our sport: http://numberonescottishgroom.blogspot.co.uk/
On her Monday 9th May 2016 blog she said: “There was a race meeting at Tairgwaith, South Wales, at which there were no bookmakers. I fear this will have irreparable damage to the track going forward.” She is right - horse racing cannot exist without bookmakers! Surely in 2016 we can address something like this?
