Reiffa 8.00 Chelmsford at 5/6 (general)

Overcame Real Problems to Win on Debut

Reiffa was a 115,000gns purchase and a half-sister to six past scorers and joined the winners' club on the Tapeta on debut over 5f at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day for William Haggas, where she defied a late market drift when catching a long-time leader and shaping as though a step up in distance would spark improvement. She not only came off the pace to catch the long-term leader she overcame severe positional bias and greenness! At the time we thought she was well beaten but showed real power and determination late on suggesting the extra furlong will suit, and there is bound to be significant natural progression from her for this top stable. The jockey appeared to get this promising individual to race for her and we are keen to see them race together again.

This filly could have raced against her own sex at Chelmsford on Saturday but William Haggas has deemed she has a better chance in this race.

Trainer and Jockey Form

Backing Apprentice ridden horses is not something we do very often because it decays our high strike-rate and not really conducive to our style of betting but on this occasion we have thought long and hard and passed the motion. The Chelmsford City surface is Polytrack, and unlike the other Polytrack courses is a galloping track and most horses act on it. Reiffa is drawn 1 and that should help Georgia Cox (3lbs) get a track position. Over the 6f there is plenty of time before the bend to sort themselves out and the bends are not tight and if our Pacafi gets a kind trip it must win?

Chelmsford City racecourse map

The trainer has maintained good form right for long periods throughout 2017 and has won twice from his last four runners. We hate the word amazing but amazingly his figures for the year were 158 winners from 590 runners for a big 27% strike-rate AND a level stake profit of +44.10pts. At Chelmsford he scores 29-101 for 29% and +12.98pts profit. When he combines with Georgia they show 18-103 for 17%.

Of Her Rivals

Rated 89, Volatile is penalised for a maiden success back in 2016 and looks to have a tough task giving so much weight to our bet but looks a fairly useful gelding and is a course winner. Was fourth of 6 in a minor event at Lingfield six days ago and this is his first run since leaving James Tate. The Haggas filly is taken to confirm superiority with Cloud Eight despite the worse terms. The latter should be in the mix once again while Global Pass has the beating of Darkest Light on earlier running. Elite Shadow fared better on his earlier debut at Yarmouth than he did at Windsor last time.

E20,000 Y, 115,000gns 2yo; 8th foal; half-sister to 6 winners inc Exning Halt (9.4f AW; RPR 80), Biri's Angel (Italy 7.5f) & Koral Power (Italy 1m/9.7f); dam 1m winner (64) half-sister to 5f 2yo Gr 2 winner Superstar Leo (dam of 5f Gr 3 winner Enticing)

Timeform View

REIFFA did well to make a winning start at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day, overcoming greenness and the run of the race, and she looks up to defying a penalty with this extra 1f likely to suit. Volatile would be the main threat if back to his best on second start for this yard.

Yesterday's Result: Ode To Autumn arrived with a BHA rating of 81 after running to a similar level of form in all four 7f starts last year on good/good to soft and Polytrack. He wore first-time blinkers here stepping up to 1m on Tapeta. The son of Showcasing came comprehensively clear from about 2f out, having set a modest gallop until then. He should develop into a decent 1m handicapper.

The Racing Horse will update the results of our 2018 Pacafi's as soon as possible especially for those who use percentage of the bank staking which is our preferred option.
