Jumping Jacks at Neath Sport Centre

The Racing Horse has been mightily impressed with the work coming out of John Kaighin's Boxing Gym in Manselton, Swansea. We had previously travelled with the team to Bristol but after a year on the road with his boxers Kaighin (Jak Boxing), staged a home meeting in association with Freaks Of The Ring Promotions at the Neath Sports Centre. The 11-fight card was billed as JUMPING JACKS and was varied, ultra-competitive and a huge success!

Kaighin wins 5 on the bounce!

Kaighin had massive managerial success on the night, providing seven boxers and winning with five of them. Three of those wins were against more experienced boxers and, with one exception, each of his boxers took something from their respective fights. It is worth pointing out two stepped up massively on previous efforts and this augurs well for their boxing careers whilst underlining the hard work coming out of the gym.

Dean Rees wins the Main Event

The main event and without doubt the biggest entertainment on the night came in the nightcap. In the heavyweight division local fighter Dean Rees had to give weight to the big George 'Gorgeous' Adams from Portsmouth. Despite his relative lack of experience Rees had the equipment and fitness to win but had to negotiate a number of haymakers and a little kidology to boot. Despite the apparent mayhem Rees boxed intelligently and to a plan against a quite unique character. The fight provided a fitting end to a great nights boxing! We caught up with Dean after the fight and he confirmed it was a tough night and he had to work hard to win. Adams graciously came to the dressing room to congratulate Dean on his victory. These two boxers epitomised everything that is good about boxing!

Delighted with performances and progress - John Kaighin

At the end of the evening we spoke to John Kaighin (JAK BOXING) and he confirmed he was not only delighted with the winning numbers but more importantly the progress his boxers are showing. He was very proud with all of them. He also paid tribute to the contribution he receives from trainer's Jimmy Bromfield and Trevor Russell and reminded us that between the three of them, there is over 130 years of professional boxing experience at the top end of the game.

Big Fight-Night at the Ice Arena Wales

Kaighin's thoughts have now turned to the next fixture and it is a big one for his boxers. Welcome to: MELT DOWN - A FREAKS OF THE RING PROMOTIONS. This will be one prestigious fight night for his charges and he will shortly begin to prepare them for Saturday 14th July 2018 to box in Cardiff at the Ice Arena Wales. More information to follow...

.

The Racing Horse hopes to witness some of the preparation and then be there to cover the evening which promises to be an explosive night!
