BEAT THAT 3.20 Newton Abbot at 8/15Racegoers Club 50th Anniversary Novices' Chase (3m2f)Pedigree: First foal; dam Irish maiden point winner, sister to bumper/2m5f-3m2f (inc Cheltenham Foxhunter) winner Drombeag and 2m4f hurdle winner Presenting Paddy.THE RACING HORSE COMPOSITE Optimum Ground: Good to soft (10) Optimum Distance: 3m to 3m2f (10) Jockey Booking: Nico de Boinville (10) Trainer Form: This season shows 31-87 for 37% (10) OR: 140 (10) The Racing Horse Composite: 50/50 Main Danger: Exxaro 7/4 Failed to convince over fences so far but...The 10yo Milan gelding Beat That failed to convince when sent chasing previously by the champion trainer but it may be worth following the yard's lead here and afford him another chance. He is a high-class and dual winner at Grade 1 level over timber, so it would be pleasing if the patience of connections could be rewarded with a first chasing success in what is a very ordinary novice chase. We accept his last win was in 2014 when he beat Don Poli in the Grade 1 at Punchestown so something to prove but Henderson would not continue with him if he did not think he had more to offer.Optimum conditionsWe can be assured his jumping would have been improved at home in his time off the track and the trainer has his horses in fantastic form. The easy fences at this course will give him confidence and he has optimum ground conditions. This does look like a confidence booster and a kind safe trip should be enough.We vividly remember Nicky Henderson telling us after the excellent Punchestown win in April 2014: "He's only had four runs over hurdles and is a very progressive horse. It's exciting to put something like him away for the summer. He''s a three-mile chaser of the future." There is time yet for him to win a few in that sphere! He has only had 14 races in total.Trainer formWe accept he is no longer of that grade but he is 21lbs well in with his main rival and then there is the question of trainer form and how many pounds is the following worth? We are comparing the form of Nicky Henderson to Colin Tizzard.Nicky Henderson Colin Tizzard August: 1-2 for 50% 0-1 for 0% July: 6-16 for 38% 2-22 for 9% June: 5-17 for 29% 4-18 for 22% May: 19-49 for 39% 9-46 for 20% Henderson's figures for this season show 31 winners from 84 runners for 37% and a level-stake profit of +17.02pts. During the same period Tizzard shows 15 winners from 87 runners for 17%. This season Henderson is the top trainer at Newton Abbot with 5-9 for 56% (+7.92).Of his rivalsExxaro (1-14 over fences) looks best of the Tizzard duo and the one most likely to pick up the pieces should the Henderson inmate fail to take to the larger obstacles as recent chase efforts suggest he's going to be a decent handicapper over fences. Dry Ol'party is best of the rest, all of whom have plenty to find to trouble the front two.TimeformBEAT THAT is not as good as he once was but still showed useful form last season and a clear round should be enough here with only Exxaro a realistic threat.ValueRegarding pace in the race Mr Pippin could be expected to race prominently whilst Beat That is most likely to be ridden furthest from the pace. We have taken the 8/15 and if all is well must start closer to 2/5. Maximum fitness is not a huge concern given the context of this race, if he is ready to race we expect him to win. In a race like this jockeyship will play an even bigger part than usual and Nico de Boinville is brilliant in chase races. His strike rate on chase favourites since the start of the 2013/14 season is 43% and we know of no other jockey to match his figures! |

NOTE: We secured 22/1 and 25/1 about Masar to 1pt win stakes but only recorded 16/1 to a 1/2pt stake. This seriously undervalues our profit for June but we know two of our members only secured 16/1. We would rather understate our performance. On this point our prices are neither best nor Betfair prices, we only nominate when the prices that are genuinely available, our members should be getting better prices so better profits!
