Racecourse Template for Newcastle (18 February 2019)

Today The Racing Horse offers our Newcastle Racecourse Template to our members and hope they find the information of some value. We genuinely believe that absorbing or having a general overview of what has been happening at the course sharpens our thought processes and stops us from betting cold. As we blog at 05.27am we remind ourselves that five trainers are venturing north with just one runner each and imagine all the preparation that entails. More about that later...

There is an 7-race card with 5 handicaps that would be tough to solve without some help. Over the next couple of weeks there are 5 meetings scheduled.

Newcastle switched from turf to all-weather during the winter of 2015/16, and like Wolverhampton, the surface it uses is Tapeta. It differs from the majority of the all-weather tracks in that as well as a traditional oval, it has a floodlit straight mile course.

Charlie Hills (283) sends up Ripley for the 5.00 at 15/2 (William Hill and BetVictor) hoping to win £2,588. Clearly there is always pressure to find and register that next winner!

Top trainers at Newcastle this year

Top trainer at the course this year is Ben Haslam but he has no runners today. David Thompson runs Splash Of Verve 5.00 at 9/1 (Paddy Power) but the jockey booking tells us not today! Michael Appleby has won 3 races from his last 6 runners including prices of 20/1 and 14/1 and he runs three including Lion Hearted 6.00 at 1/2 (SkyBet, William Hill and BetVictor), Moonraker 7.00 at 11/2 (SkyBet, William Hill and BetVictor) and Zapper Cass 7.30 at 12/1 (Betfair and Paddy Power).

Richard Fahey runs two, they are Beresford 6.30 at 7/1 (general) and Bengali Boys 7.00 at 10/1 (general). Finally, another in form trainer Antony Brittain runs three which include Hussar Ballad 5.00 at 12/1 (general), One One Seven 5.30 at 9/2 (general) and Capla Demon 8.00 at 20/1 (SkyBet, William Hill and BetVictor).

Elixsoft to give Lion Hearted a race?

Three of the top jockeys have rides today but we are considering whether to take on Lion Hearted 6.00 with Elixsoft and a certain Callum Rodriquez. This 4yo filly is a course winner and running into form and this is her third run back after a long break, she will be fit today. We noted she was a good third at 6/1 in a handicap at this course (7.1f) 17 days ago, running on. Although she is currently 7lb higher than when last scoring, her best RPR came over a mile. She looks an each-way bet to nothing and if the favourite, who has his fourth run since 24 January feels his legs or is not as effective over a mile our filly can win. The 8/1 with Betfair and Paddy Power looks big to us and we are certain each-way money will come for her later today so a trading opportunity also! Trainer Roger Fell is 1-5 for 20% (+5.00) for February and 3-28 for 11% (+25.50) for January so has the figures we need.

Callum Rodriquez +98.23

We have been following Callum Rodriquez recently and he has two rides today in Elixsoft 6.00 at 8/1 (Betfair and Paddy Power) and Major Crispies 8.00 at 12/1 (general). This year he has continued his good start and shows 9 winners from 48 rides for 19% and a level-stake profit of +29.33.

CALLUM RODRIGUEZ since January 2015

2yo AW: 6-20 for 30% (+40.24)
2yo Turf: 7-84 for 8% (-40.15)
3yo AW: 12-56 for 21% (+29.00)
3yo Turf 18-125 for 14% (-4.01)
4yo+ AW: 38-234 for 16% (+86.83)
4yo+ Turf: 48-357 for 13% (-13.67)
Total: 129-876 for 15% (+98.23)

At Newcastle the jockey records fantastic figures given the type of horses he rides and astonishingly is 32 winners from 164 rides for 20% and a level-stake profit of +99.73
