 Lasting impression

King Roland is a €40,000 Irish point winner and then left a lasting impression when scoring by a whopping 22 lengths at Uttoxeter on his debut and landed a gamble under Rules in December, and further progress is expected from Harry Fry's charge. The 5yo is held in high regard by connections, and can take this before embarking on a successful career over hurdles. We are conscious of Timeform's comments when saying that King Roland posted the highest figure from a British bumper performer seen this season. He could be out of the top drawer and can defy a penalty here before having his sights raised.

Looking forward to seeing his improvement - Harry Fry

He's an exciting recruit and, having looked to know what's required here, the sooner he goes over hurdles the better but Harry Fry told the At The Race listeners (after we had nominated): "He gets us excited in the mornings, he has got to build in a deeper race with interesting horses we have to give weight too, but we look forward to seeing how much he has improved." How much he has improved?

Harry has loved him since the day he got him - Noel Fehily

Noel Fehily told us about King Roland: "He is a lovely horse who was impressive in his point-to-point and Harry has loved him since the day he got him. He wore a hood for safety with it being his first start."

Of his rivals

Nicky Henderson’s Mr Woody can only improve on his second at Warwick and Financier looked in need of the run when third at Chepstow. Not A Nail was favourite when placed at Exeter in December and Farrants Way was also third at Uttoxeter, though will struggle to overturn that form with impressive Pacafi. Calum Gilhooley and Stick With Bill also made winning starts with Harry Whittington’s charge making all here just before Christmas. This is a competitive affair. Anax and Shakem Up'arry are newcomers to consider.

Timeform

KING ROLAND posted the highest figure from a British bumper performer seen this season when destroying his rivals at Uttoxeter in December. He could be out of the top drawer and can defy a penalty here before having his sights raised. Not A Nail shaped well at Exeter and will surely improve. Shakem Up'Arry could be the pick of the newcomers.

Value

This is a race with top trainers being involved and we tend to avoid taking on the top tier waiting for easier opportunities. On this occasion we know Harry Fry thinks his horse is top class and less concerned with the opposition. Because of the strong opposition being certain about value is problematical but we priced King Roland up at closer to 8/13 as opposed to 8/11. Despite that with the top trainers involved the Pacafi might ease in price and not contract. We know the Fry team will be bitterly disappointed if he got beaten as they regard this one highly.

The Racing Horse will update the results of our 2018 Pacafi's as soon as possible especially for those who use percentage of the bank staking which is our preferred option. Our results will show advised odds/best price guaranteed, result, stake, win or lose, balance and strike-rate. The results will be shown at 1pt win stakes. From 1st March 2018 we will use 1 to 2pt win staking when appropriate and most favourable including the use of stake-savers.
