The Racing Horse looks at the 8-race card at Newcastle scheduled for 1 June 2020 where there are six handicap races (class 3 to 6), one novice (class 5) and one maiden (class 5). The number of races could be increased to 10 if there are divisions. Tapeta surface is expected to be standard to slow.

The planned return of British racing at Newcastle on Monday has been met with huge enthusiasm as a mammoth entry of 369 horses was received for the fixture. It is no surprise that Richard Fahey has made 33 entries with 6 entered for the novice race. We are more interested, at this stage, with the 4 entered by John Gosden.

There are entries at Newcastle from champion trainer John Gosden, Michael Stoute, Roger Varian, Marco Botti, Michael Bell, Hugo Palmer, Charlie Hills and Simon and Ed Crisford. The Racing Horse looks at the trainers with the best strike rate over the past five years at Newcastle:

Michael Stout: 14-36 for 39%
Charlie Appleby: 13-34 for 38%
John Gosden: 43-122 for 35%
William Haggas: 33-93 for 35%
Charlie Hills: 16-67 for 24%

Any runner from the above must be taken seriously and if we do not bet them we rarely oppose them!

The BHA has said all races following the resumption will require final fields to be declared three days before meetings take place "until further notice", which means the final fields for Newcastle will be published on Friday.
