Post the racing resumption The Racing Horse takes a look at some of the trainer's who are struggling to cope with the enforced break. Today we look at one of the top trainers in the UK and ask a question?

Members will know we cannot back a horse of Saeed bin Suroor at the moment. It is now July and his 2020 figures in the UK show just 4 winners from 44 runners for a strike rate of 9%. Historically he is a trainer with a national average of 22% which scores particularly highly. We look at his timeline and compare it with his colleague Charlie Appleby in an attempt to gain context:

January 2020: 0-0 for 0% (+0.00)
February 2020: 0-1 for 0% (-1.00)
June 2020: 4-42 for 10% (-25.14)
July 2020: 0-1 for 0% (-1.00)
TOTAL: 4-47 for 8% (-27.14)

January 2020: 5-12 for 42% (-0.45)
February 2020: 4-17 for 24% (-7.25)
March 2020: 1-2 for 50% (-0.50)
June 2020: 18-70 for 26% (+1.34)
TOTAL: 28-101 for 28% (-6.86)

These simple set of figures show Appleby has 7 times more winners in the same period. How can this be? The figures above show the Godolphin trainer in a better light than present because he is now 1-18 for 6% over the last 14 days and he has now gone 9 days since a winner.
