The Racing Horse offers our GOODWOOD RACECOURSE TEMPLATE and highlight some of the more interesting numbers. We will open a leader board and show the leading trainers based on their 2019 and past 5 year form at the course. We have also added Aidan O'Brien's runners to the mix.

2020 GLORIOUS GOODWOOD LEADER BOARD

William Haggas: 4-14 for 29% (+9.50)
Charlie Appleby: 2-6 for 33% (+2.50)
A O'Brien: 2-10 for 20% (-0.82)
Richard Hannon: 2-25 for 8% (-3.00)
Mark Johnston: 2-41 for 5% (-25.50)
Ralph Beckett: 1-11 for 9% (+12.00)
John Gosden: 2-12 for 17% (-10.03)
Roger Varian: 1-16 for 6% (-5.00)

Andrew Balding and David Menuisier have yet to score at this Festival. Mark Johnston continues to flood races for poor strike rates and he sends another 9 to the course tomorrow making it 41 runners. He does look likely to score with Themaxwecan taking his figures to 2-41 which is not appealing and who, in their right mind, would ask him to train a horse for them? He is the Eddie Stobart of horse racing! Oh, and if his horses are so tough to beat how come he is 66th best in GB 2020 on strike rate? The Johnston thing is a fallacy!

The track is unique in more ways than one and the switchback nature of the course can favour those with previous experience at the track

JASON WEAVER on GOODWOOD

Goodwood’s stewards are surely among the busiest in Britain, as it’s tricky to ride and it’s easy to run into traffic problems, especially on the round course. The bottom turn claims its share of victims, because the ground there runs away from you, while the bend into the home straight is very sharp. You get congestion on the dogleg, too, as normally a fair few are still in contention at that point. On the sprint course, the quickest way home is in a straight line, which means the middle is usually a good spot.
