Cheltenham Winning Mare races at Warwick

Always held in the highest regard by Alan King, The Glancing Queen has actually run in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival for the past two seasons. In 2019, she was beaten only seven and a quarter lengths by the all-conquering Envoi Allen, before going on to win a Grade Two mares' event at Aintree. A setback in the early stages of last season prevented her from going hurdling, so King let her have another crack at the Cheltenham event where she was again ran with credit, although she was beaten further by Ferny Hollow back in March.

Since then King has given her a couple of spins on the Flat over a mile and a half which, while not totally devoid of promise, did enough only to give her a rating of 60 on the all-weather. Those runs were in preparation for this season though King may take advantage of that mark one day, but for now her attentions have been switched to hurdling - and while she will need to be on her game to beat a couple of useful mares, she has already shown she is easily the best of these on ability alone.

In good form - Alan King

Alan King told us at the weekend: "She was a very good bumper filly two years ago and we didn't really get a good run with her last year. She is back in very good form and she is due to make her hurdling debut at Warwick next week. I still think she is very good." In April 2019 he said: "We've always adored The Glancing Queen. She was a bit unlucky not to finish closer at Cheltenham, she got stopped coming down the hill. We'll put her away and look forward to the autumn. She's won a point, she jumps great and she's exciting." In context tomorrow is a Class 4 Novice, if she is reasonably fit and well she should outclass these and the trainer is in fabulous form!

Contenders

Alpha Carinae failed to cope with a penalty at Market Rasen after scoring at Perth in September and is conceding 6lb again here. Global Harmony has ground to make up on that Perth run but may do so and looks the main danger, whilst Drumlee Getaway was last of six on her debut under Rules in an Aintree bumper. Bourbon Beauty was beaten more than 20 lengths when fourth at Huntingdon.

Timeform

Judged on her bumper form a couple of seasons back, THE GLANCING QUEEN is potentially a cut-above these rivals. Indeed, she was a Grade 2 winner at the 2019 Aintree Grand National meeting and this former point winner can be expected to relish this step up in trip now switched to hurdles. Second choice is Global Harmony, who is taken to reverse Perth placings with Alpha Carinae on these terms.

The Racing Horse wanted to hear positive noises from the trainer and we got those at the weekend and she looks a great bet at near even money. We have been nibbling on Betfair Exchange at around 1.9 to 1.94 and hope to continue through the evening though SkyBet and BetVictor are currently offering 5/6.
