|Wolverhampton AW show a healthy strike rate for winning favourites in non-handicaps at around 43% over the past 5 years. Best age category is currently those 4yo+ where they have won 77-176 for over 44%. Handicap winning favourites mirror the national average, but as you can imagine the older the favourites are in handicaps the worse they perform regarding strike rate and profit to level stakes.
We doubt many could name the top trainer at the course this year and for the last 5 years? It is of course David Evans. A couple of absentee jockeys on the current year leader board is Hollie Doyle and Ben Curtis, we expect them to join the ranks shortly.
There are two races of real interest for us and we have got involved without making them a Pacafi. That said their form is compelling, they are:
JEANS MAITE 6.40 at 6/4 generally looks very hard to beat given her decisive victory at Southwell last week. She gets to race in the 0-50 bracket before her mark is reviewed and should be too good for this field in her current form though she has been busy this year. She was a course and distance winner in January so not a case of her just being a Fibresand mare. Is the current 6/4 generally available? We are not sure, the Roy Bowring/Lewis Edmunds combination is not our preferred route.
UNFORGIVING MINUTE 7.10 at 5/4 arrives on the back of a 7f success in this sphere at Lingfield, his second success from his last three starts, and Adam Kirby keeping the ride is a positive for Sean Curran's course and distance winner. We note Mythical Madness gets 4lb from that rival despite being rated 3lb higher on official figures and has course and distance form but now a 10yo with 77 next to his name.
