Best performing category albeit from a smaller sample are 3yo winning favourites in non-handicaps which show 25 winners from 48 runners for a big 52% strike rate and a level stake profit to SP of +1.46. Winning favourites in handicaps fare slightly better than the national average.
Standout figures from the track (past 5 years) come from Ralph Beckett and Rossa Ryan but neither have runners or rides on Friday. The racing at Chepstow offers the chance of some lesser lights to score but we still imagine top trainer at the track David Evans getting on the scoresheet. He has 3 entered and the second of his three looks particularly interesting: ALMOST AN ANGEL 7.15, CLIFFS OF FREEDOM 7.45 & WINKLEVI 8.15. Top jockey with rides is Charles Bishop: KODIAC ATTACK 6.15, GRANARY QUEEN 7.15, RAFFLES REBEL 7.45 & WINKLEVI 8.15.
Can BELLEVARDE 6.15 end Richard Price's long losing run? If the 7yo mare has recovered from her run at Lingfield on Wednesday, she must have a great chance! Callum Hutchinson takes 7lbs off her back and she has drawn stall 4. Aquadabra for Christopher Mason, can usually be relied upon to run her race and she also enters calculations.
6.15: TOMAHAWK RIDGE 22/1 John Gallagher shows profit of £81.94 to £1 when one runner at meeting
KODIAK ATTACK 9/1 (S Kirk & Charles Bishop) has won off 65 in the last two years, now 55
BELLEVARDE 5/2f Trainer R Price not had winner since October 2020?
6.45: JOY CHOI 7/4 Malcolm Saunders shows profit of £12.84 to £1 when one runner at meeting
7.15: SUNSET 15/8 Sam Hitchcott rides and currently 0-22
7.45: ELSPETH ROSE 25/1 (Mrs Stella Barclay) 202m.
CLIFFS OF FREEDOM 6/1 has first run for P Evans, formerly with Keith Coleman.
8.15: PORT OR STARBOARD 16/1 has first run for B J Llewellyn, formerly with E O'Neill
8.45: MR EXCELLENCY 5/6 (Mark Johnston) longest traveller 222m.
BASHFUL (Andrew Balding) beaten favourite last time out
NATIONAL AVERAGEEvery trainer has a career-to-date strike rate, this is called a NATIONAL AVERAGE, be aware of this figure before placing a wager - it matters. For example, in the 8.15 race the trainers have the following national averages: Richard Hannon 12%, Rod Millman 11%, David Evans 9%, Bernard Llewellyn 7%, John Flint 6%, J S Moore 4%. |
Chepstow takes a fair bit of getting. Because it’s so up hill and down dale, stamina has to come into play and it’s also worth noting that the straight is quite long, meaning that some horses start to race a lot earlier than is ideal. If you’re on one that wants to make the running, for example, you’ll often get a few keen to take you on earlier than you might like, so patience is vital for a jockey. Long-striding horses can often go well on the straight track but, as it’s quite stiff, they definitely need to get home - Jason Weaver
