FIXTURES
Monday 23 August 2021
Monday 30 August 2021
Thursday 9 September 2021
    • COURSE: Left handed, undulating. An oval-shaped track, about two miles in extent, with a run-in of five furlongs. While not an out-and-out galloping course, owing to the pronounced undulations, the track puts the emphasis on stamina almost regardless of ground. All races up to a mile are run on the straight course.
    • FAVOURITES IN NON-HANDICAPS: Best performing category albeit from a smaller sample are 3yo winning favourites in non-handicaps which show 25 winners from 49 runners for a big 51% strike rate and a level stake profit to SP of +0.46.
    • FAVOURITES IN HANDICAPS: Winning favourites in handicaps fare slightly better than the national average. Winning favourites in both categories over the past 5 years show 171-479 for 35.70% (-21.60).
    • TRAINERS: We note the top 5 trainers at the course perform above their national averages, this represents an edge/value when they have runners at this course. Top trainer David Evans has 4 entries and will be competitive at this course as usual. Ralph Beckett (32%) runs 2 whilst Tony Carroll has 3 entries but we cannot see an obvious winner. It is the 2 runners of William Haggas that catches the eye where he will expect at least 1 winner.

  • ROD MILLMAN: Irrespective of Chepstow today Rod Millman is the most in form trainer in the country. 7 of his last 12 runners have won for 58% at prices of 6/4, 11/8, 13/2, 7/2, 15/8, 7/4 and 5/2. He has 4 runners at the course today. He also sends 1 to Brighton and a big chance of a winner there! Tomorrow he sends 3 to Salisbury and has targeted the Female Amateur race with 2 entries. His horses have never been running so well as they are now, and we doubt his winning run is over! At Chepstow he records 55-513 for 11% but the past 5 year figures show a strike rate of 13%.
  • JOCKEYS: Angus Villiers shows 3 winners from his last 6 rides but our eyes are drawn to the mounts of Jim Crowley and Tom Marquand, both will hope to ride a winner tomorrow.
  • OWNERS: M Tidball & B Millman have a runner tomorrow in Sir Plato 2.30 who is 4-7 at the track.

JASON WEAVER on CHEPSTOW

Chepstow takes a fair bit of getting. Because it’s so up hill and down dale, stamina has to come into play and it’s also worth noting that the straight is quite long, meaning that some horses start to race a lot earlier than is ideal. If you’re on one that wants to make the running, for example, you’ll often get a few keen to take you on earlier than you might like, so patience is vital for a jockey. Long-striding horses can often go well on the straight track but, as it’s quite stiff, they definitely need to get home

CHEPSTOW has 32 meetings annually, both flat and jump racing, please visit their website for more details.
