CONFIGURATION: Lingfield’s left-handed all-weather track is laid out inside the turf track and, measuring just less than a mile and a quarter round, is essentially sharp in nature. This, along with how the races often pan out ensures that stamina is rarely at a premium and strong-travelling types with a turn of foot are often favoured. Predominantly flat, there is a slight downhill turn in to the straight. At shorter trips, prominent racers tend to outperform those ridden more patiently, though there seems little advantage over further. Lingfield's surface is Polytrack.

JASON WEAVER: Lingfield’s 1m 2f all-weather start is a tough one, very draw-dependent. The same is true of the 5f and 6f starts. I always think it’s a track that lends itself to riding in the ‘third wave’. In races over 1m, for example, the first wave will go with maybe 5f left, round the initial turn, while the second wave will kick into the home straight. The third wave - the George Baker wave - usually attacks at the 1f pole and often comes out best. You don’t want to be way out of your ground, but patience can pay.

WINNING FAVOURITES: Show 633-1779 for close to 36%, so 3% above national average, though a level stake loss of -£207.46 to a £1 stake

  • Winning favourites in non-handicaps score at 51%
  • Winning favourites in handicaps score at 30%
  • Best category are 3yo winning favourites in non-handicaps 112-213 for 53% (+7.96)
  • Worst category are 4yo+ winning favourites in handicaps 253-838 for 30% (-140.10)
  • Differential between best and worst category is a huge 23%
  • Top trainer at the course is Andrew Balding (15%) who scores at +7% above his national average and shows a level stake profit of +£40.30 to a £1 level stake
  • Top jockey at the course is David Probert (13%) who scores +2% above his national average and shows a level stakes profit of +£114.51 to a £1 level stake
  • Godolphin (26%) are the leading owners at the course scoring at 33% so +7% above their national average and a level stake profit of +£10.78 to a £1 level stake

TRAINERS: Andrew Balding (15%) is top trainer at the course and has just the one runner in GALLANT 4.17 to be ridden by Oisin Murphy. His second start win at Kempton has been franked and if ready is likely to win.

Tony Carroll (10%) has 7 runners including FORESEEN 2.17, ROYAL JET 3.17, NEPTUNE LEGEND 3.47, HONRADO & WALK THE MOON 4.47, DANEHILL STAR 5.17 and BIG NARSTIE 5.47

JOCKEYS: Jack Mitchell (16%) rides the course at 21% so +5% and he has 3 rides in CRAFTER 2.17, DON PACIFICO 4.17 & WE'RENOTREALLYHERE 5.17

Luke Morris (9%) has 4 rides including SPIRITUALISM 1.47, MOUNT MOGAN 3.17, COMEDIAN LEADER 3.47 & FOINIX 4.47

OWNERS: Power Geneva (13%) have 3 runners each of which has some sort of chance including SEAS OF ELZAAM 3.17, GALEL 3.47 & AVARICE 4.47 all trained by John Butler.

RED FLAG: Hollie Doyle (14%) has ridden 999 UK winners and this week will ride her 1000th. TRH has met Hollie a number of times, but have two personal stories to tell. First, I was Covid tested with her and Tom Marquand (so just three of us) at Chepstow Racecourse before racing and talked about their rides for that day. Hollie put me onto a 15/2 winner whilst Tom a loser at 10/11. We were all passed fit for racing. Secondly, I was physically whipped by Hollie during a horse race. She had taken the lead inside the final furlong and was driving her horse home on the rail nearest to the stands, where I had been leaning and standing and cheering her home, when she gave her ride a couple of reminders, one of those struck my left shoulder. My wife Pam had taken a photo just a fraction of a second before it happened (see above)! The horse was looking directly at me, so thankful I did not distract a winning ride!

Tomorrow she has 4 rides including HANDLE WITH CARE 1.47, RABINAL 2.47, RAVENSBOURNE 3.47 & POLES APART 5.17 and the advice is surely to follow and filter her rides from here. She is almost certain to ride her 1,000th winner this week, so apart from 4 rides tomorrow, she has 3 more at Kempton on Wednesday, 3 more on my birthday on Thursday at Wolverhampton and then 5 more at Lingfield on Friday, by then she will probably have scored 1,001 or 1,002! A very special moment is approaching and TRH takes this opportunity to congratulate her and thank her for friendliness!
