CONFIGURATION: Kempton is a flat, oval-shaped course with two loops. The inner circuit, used for races over five, nine and ten furlongs is sharp and has a finishing straight of just under two furlongs, favouring the speedy, handy type, particularly over the minimum trip. The turn on the outer course is more sweeping and the straight is almost three furlongs, making for a more straightforward test. Over both five and six furlongs, there is a relatively short run to the first bend.

JASON WEAVER: The way the track is prepared at Kempton can play a massive part in whether it suits front-runners or horses coming from behind. Most of the time, the going is officially rated ‘standard’ but I know, from having ridden in America, that all artificial surfaces are dependent on weather conditions. An inside draw is a big advantage on the round course, as you don’t want to be running wide, and there’s a tendency for jockeys to get going a long from home. My preference would be to use patient tactics.

FAVOURITES: Kempton Racecourse Template provides a huge sample giving the figures real weight and substance! Winning favourites at the course over the past 5-years show 803-2149 for 37.37% and a level stake loss of -137.58, so +4% of the national average. Non-handicap winning favourites score at 45% as opposed to handicap favourites who score at 33% for a significant 12% differential.

  • Best category are 3yo favs in non-handicaps 155-313 for 50% (-20.96)
  • Worst category are 4yo favs in handicaps 257-791 for 32% (-49.71)

GREEN FLAG: Charlie Appleby (30%) scores 34% at Kempton, so +4% above his high national average. At the course this season he shows 17-37 for 46% (+6.05) and contained within those figures are 9 second places, meaning his horses finish first or second at 70.27%. His 2yos have scored 11-23 for 48% (+1.18) and 17 from 23 have finished first or second at 73.91%. He has 3 entries for this meeting and all are 2yos to be ridden by James Doyle (19%). Their combination on the AW surfaces show 33-89 for 37% over the past 5 years.

His runners include PIERCHIC 5.00, BECCADELLI 6.00 & NATION'S HOPE 6.30. Hard not seeing him recording a win double if all turn up.

Won over 7f at Chelmsford on second start. Wears a hood.

Created a good impression when winning on debut in a maiden over a mile at Kempton in November 2025.
