Friday's results not included...

FAVOURITES: Winning favourites at Haydock over the past 5 years show 245-664 for 36.90% (-28.99). This is a decent sized sample and shows the racecourse winning favourites striking almost 5% above the national average of around 32%.

TRAINERS: William Haggas (22%) is top trainer at Haydock and beats his national average at this course scoring at 24%, he has 3 entries including SEA SILK ROAD 3.00, ROYAL CHARTER 4.10 & GOOD GRACIOUS 4.45. Cannot see an obvious winner but he must be respected.

Roger Varian (20%) is gradually finding form this season and his June figures read 7-30 for 23% (-3.15) and we sense he is about to let rip anytime soon, he runs MODAARA 3.00 who takes a steep rise in grade. He has 6 runners at 4 courses and almost certain to have at least one winner!

Keith Dalgleish (11%) makes the 200-mile trip with 3 entries and he is currently 2-6 over the last couple of days, and 4-17 for 24% over 14 days so bang in form. His runners are PRINCE OF PILLO 1.15, VOLATILE ANALYST 1.50 & GOOD SHOW 2.25. One of those to go close? But beware, at the course he is 1-46 for just 2% (-38.00)

William Knight (11%) is living in a nightmare! It is 129 days since he had a winner! He has a runner at the course today but has only saddled 2 winners here in his whole career and 0 in the last 5 years. His runner CHARTWELL HOUSE 4.10 has a place chance at least on form, but could this be the one to end his horrible losing run? We have spent some time looking at this race and if we were offered 10/1 about this 3yo Churchill gelding we would stake. Both of his runs at Newmarket this season were more than decent...

JOCKEYS: James Doyle (19%) has 3 rides including RAASEL 1.15, RAATEA 1.50 & GET SHIRTY 2.25. He is the only jockey from our leader board with rides.

HOT JOCKEYS: The hot jockeys look to be the best angle into the meeting on what could be a tricky day. Ryan Moore (18%) is in top form and rattling in the winners, he has 5 rides today. Frankie Dettori (23%) is red-hot also and has 3 rides whilst the excellent Neil Callan (15%) has 4 rides. One imagines a number of winners coming from this trio and their 12 rides?

OWNERS: Godolphin (25%) score at -6% at Haydock. They have 2 runners trained by Saeed bin Suroor who both run in the same 2.25 race GLOBAL HEAT at 14/1 & LIVE YOUR DREAM at 10/1. Not completely ruled out but questions to answer.

JASON WEAVER - HAYDOCK RACECOURSE

Haydock is a lovely galloping track and on fast ground, despite the long straight, you can get away from your field and prove very hard to peg back. It’s completely different when conditions are softer, though, requiring more patient tactics. In distance races, there’s an advantage to be had in the back straight by switching sides as the course turns. There used to be a huge bias in favour of the stands’ rail in soft ground and, while it’s less pronounced these days, I’m still a believer in taking that route.
