Fixtures

FAVOURITES: Because of the small sample size, this section of the template does not help us too much. Over the past 5 years we know winning favourites at this course show 84-232 for 36% and a small level stake profit of +£11.97. Despite a higher strike rate of winning favourites in non-handicaps at 41%, they show a loss to SP, whilst the handicap favourites at 32% show a profit of +£16.92. We believe all numbers have value/significance, but on this occasion will not take them too seriously.

TRAINERS: Our top trainer leader board looks the natural starting point regarding tomorrow's racing, and the top five have 20 entries between them, one would expect multiple winners from this grouping.

IRISH TRAINERS: Looking at the top Irish trainers we note their entries and numbers which include W P Mullins 7, Gordon Elliott 9 (7 in the Grand National), and Henry De Bromhead 2. From these 18 entries both logic and maths suggests winners and we think one of those races is the Grand National!

JOCKEYS: Our leader board looks to support the comments regarding the top trainer's entries. The top five jockeys have 18 rides between them, one would expect multiple winners from this grouping.

OWNERS: J P McManus has 13 runners for this Saturday's meeting - an incredible number of runners and one must assume he goes home with at least one prize, and given the nature of this meeting could have a winner at a big price? The market place suggest GENTLEMAN DE MEE 3.00 & CHAMP 3.30 are his most likeliest winners...

Munir & Souede have 5 entries and so does Gigginstown, so this pairing really ought to score also!

AINTREE RACECOURSE

Even though it’s flat, it can be very testing for a horse, so you need one that can travel. The winner is almost always still on the bridle leaving the back straight - take a look at some old tapes if you want proof - and those that aren’t really struggle to get home. It’s a long, long way from the home turn to the line and a very long run-in, so you need to have a bit of horse left under you all the way up the home straight to have any chance. As a general rule, it’s the horses that can get into a rhythm, racing nicely on the bridle, who do best at Aintree. (Mick Fitzgerald)
