Boasts strong form

Git Maker go off mark at the fourth attempt in Irish points and has made a promising start under Rules, winning a Chepstow maiden before defying a penalty at Carlisle. Not disgraced when up in trip on his handicap debut at Sandown (form working out well) and boasts strong claims back in novice company and looks all about price! On ratings he is 20lbs better than the next best rated, though has to carry a double penalty.

Course will suit

The track should suit given he is a remorseless galloper. Over this sort of distance we need one that stays both over hurdles and in chases. It’s a long way from the turn in to the winning line and, because it’s quite open, it asks questions about a horse’s stamina.

Jamie Snowden said after his win at Chepstow in January: "We've always really liked Git Maker and he finished second to Up For Parol, whom we like, in a point-to-point. Staying chasing is where he's going and on this testing ground as he's got a high-enough knee action. We'll tip away gently this season and go chasing in the autumn. He definitely wants to go up in trip, but the fact he can do that over two miles is a bonus. He's a nice horse and we'll probably keep him to two miles on galloping tracks."

The trainer sends his progressive charge on a 5-hour trip and a journey of 300 miles, he must think he looks a good thing!

Optimum ground conditions?

There are a couple of slight concerns about this wager and we have to address them. Git Maker has a bit of a knee action and since joining Jamie Snowden has ran three times on heavy, soft and soft. This is not to say the Pacafi will not handle better ground but at this point optimum ground is probably on the soft side. The other point is the trainer has only sent 3 to Newcastle in the last 5 years and yet to win there.

Trainer form

Snowden (17%) has made a decent start to 2022 with 12 winners from 73 for 16% and this is his only runner tomorrow. His combination with Gavin Sheehan is a good one and record 112-554 for a big 20% with 99 second places over the past 5 years. The opposing trainers cannot get close to these strong figures.

Contender

Shighness was a bumper winner who has got better with each run over hurdles, opening her account in 10-runner maiden at Wetherby (21.2f, heavy) 33 days ago, staying on to lead near finish. That was a weak affair, but she may do better still and given the form of her trainer looks the danger.

Timeform

 GIT MAKER wasn't disgraced on his first try at this trip on his handicap debut at Sandown last month, and with that form working out well, he looks up to defying a double penalty back in a novice. Whelans Bridge would have finished third but for a serious late error on his C&D hurdling debut and seems sure to improve, while Kidman will be suited by a return to further and is another to consider.

Value

The 8/13 looks to be perceived value though the ground conditions are hard to factor into proceedings.

UPDATE 06.47: Overnight we have been thinking about perceived value and we now doubt we have secured value at 8/13. We had initially wanted 8/11 or 4/6 at a pinch.
