There is a 7-race card containing 3 Handicaps, a Fillies' Conditions race, 2 Group 3s and a Group 1. Tuesday's results have been updated. Yesterday our pertinence board found a £340.20 Tricast and suggested the new team of C & M Johnston would get off the mark. Our detailed look at winning favourites at the course also provided some useful information...

Tuesday's results included...

FAVOURITES: Goodwood is generally and incorrectly regarded as not a good course for favourites given the scrimmaging and trouble in running that occurs there, but that is NOT reflected in our figures. In fact, had you backed every favourite at Goodwood over the past years you would have made a huge profit of +42.93 (205-540). However, the figures are abnormal, in that non-handicap favourites show a loss whilst handicap favourites show a nice profit, that rarely happens! The sample size may not be huge but it is robust, and the numbers suggest we back those favourites when appropriate!

Non-handicaps show 89-218 for 41% (-4.21) yet winning favourites in handicaps score 116-322 for 36% (+47.14) with the latter showing a strike rate above the national average (32)%. Winning favourites aged 4yo+ have great figures across the board showing 95-221 for 42.99% and a big level stake profit of +59.49

Winning favourites on the first day won 3 of the 8 races for 38% at prices of 6/4, 7/4 and 5/2 returning a profit so in keeping with our original figures. Today there are 7 races but one envisages 3 more winners as the winning favourites par figure.

TRAINERS: The top 5 trainers at the track have 22 runners and a natural starting point to the day. William Haggas (23%) is red hot and whilst we know he will have a winner today he might have 2! His runners include MANDOBI & SOULCOMBE 1.50, BAAEED 3.35 & SEA SPEEDWELL 4.10

COLD LIST TRAINER: David Loughnane (11%) is now 0-47 over 46 days, he has 3 runners tomorrow.

JOCKEYS: As anticipated Ryan Moore (18%) took the honours on the first day with 2 winners, he has 5 more rides for Wednesday. Frankie Dettori and William Buick (22%) also won a race so our top 3 jockeys won half of the races. Buick has 6 rides, Tom Marquand (14%) has 4.

Hollie Doyle (14%) did not have her best day on Tuesday with 0-5, she has 5 more rides tomorrow.

JOCKEY COLD LIST: Cieren Fallon (13%) is currently 0-19 and has 3 rides, whilst Franny Norton (13%) 0-13 has 4 rides

OWNERS: Godolphin (24%) have 5 entries tomorrow, they include: SECRET STATE 1.50, SOFT WHISPER 2.25, MODERN GAMES 3.35, WILD LION & STUNNING BEAUTY 5.20.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum (15%) has a single entry in LUMINOUS LIGHT 1.50

Shadwell Estate (22%) have 2 runners in ALLAYAALI 2.25 & BAAEED 3.35

YESTERDAY: Some interesting pertinence yesterday from our Racecourse Template. Team Johnston recorded their first winner in the first race at 14/1. One member followed the pertinence from the 4.45 race where it flagged the 1-2-3 for a Trifecta of £340.20.

BY THE WAY: James Doyle (20%) is now 0-44 over a period of 20 days, this losing will end this week, followed by a flurry of winning rides! He does not have a ride at Goodwood and goes to Sandown instead where he has 3 rides. The reason for this appears to be FLYING HONOURS 6.50 and we will look closely at January colt who has a Group 1 entry, looks to be all about price. After much consideration Flying Honours is a Pacafi. There is not a rationale for this nomination...

BY THE WAY 2: We are always talking about perceived value and we note at current prices the CSF for BAEED & MODERN GAMES and BAEED & ORDER OF AUSTRALIA with Bet365 is 4.53. Could that be the value in the race? BAEED & ALCOHOL FREE is just 2.45 and we suggest that is not value. Suffice it to say we have staked and saved in the race on the first two options.

JASON WEAVER ON GOODWOOD

Goodwood’s stewards are surely among the busiest in Britain, as it’s tricky to ride and it’s easy to run into traffic problems, especially on the round course. The bottom turn claims its share of victims, because the ground there runs away from you, while the bend into the home straight is very sharp. You get congestion on the dogleg, too, as normally a fair few are still in contention at that point. On the sprint course, the quickest way home is in a straight line, which means the middle is usually a good spot.
