FIXTURES
Friday 19 August 2022
Saturday 20 August 2022
Sunday 4 September 2022

COURSE: Left handed, flat. In essence, a very fair track, ideal for the long-striding galloper. In recent seasons, the field tends to come more down the centre of the track than has historically been the case, particularly if conditions are testing.

FAVOURITES:  Winning favourites at York over the past 5 years show 177-540 for 32.78% and a level stake loss of -£2.38. Best category albeit from a small sample, is 4yo+ favourites in non-handicaps showing 30-59 for 51% (+9.30).

TRAINERS: Normally a good starting point with Racecourse Templates is to check out the top trainers at the track, but Richard Fahey and Tim Easterby are volume masters with small national averages of 8% & 7% respectively, so finding their winners is a difficult thing to do. That said the top 5 trainers at the course have 16 runners and one imagines winners coming from this quintet. J & T Gosden (21%) and William Haggas (23%) have 3 runners each and of particular interest.

JOCKEYS: Top jockey at the course Danny Tudhope (17%) goes to Carlisle for 3 rides so the hint should be taken! Meanwhile, Frankie Dettori (23%) who has the best strike rate at the course goes to Newbury for 3 rides, and again, the hint should be taken!

The two jockeys to follow at York tomorrow must be Tom Marquand (14%), and Andrea Atzeni (16%), they both have a full book of 7 rides!

OWNERS: Three of our top five owners have massive interest for Friday and this trio will produce winners!

Godolphin (24%) have 5 runners, they include: NOBLE STYLE 3.00, LAZULI 3.35, DESERT ORDER 4.45, BAY OF HONOUR & NEW KINGDOM 5.20

King Power Racing have 4 runners, they include: ANGEL POWER 1.50, WINTER POWER 3.35, MYRISTICA 4.10 & LEUVEN POWER 5.20.

Sheikkh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum (20%) has 5 runners, they include: COLD CASE 3.00, CHUZZLEWIT 3.00, EMARAATY ANA 3.35,  SHAMPION 4.10 and CAPTAIN WENTWORTH 4.45.

BY THE WAY: We have backed Frankie Dettori on FRANTASTIC 3.50 Newbury as a Pacafi but Howard has asked which horse has made Danny Tudhope go to Carlisle a course where he scores a meagre 6-61 for 10% so 7% below his national average! The main reason looks to be MATCH PLAY 1.00 for Kevin Ryan at 6/1 and now shortening (07.20). He is 18-80 for 23% (+6.23) when riding for the trainer. Interesting his other two rides are not only course and distance winners, but last time out winners as well, they include CAPTAIN CORELLI 3.45 for Julie Camacho at 3/1, and INNSE GALL 4.56 for Iain Jardine at 4/1.

BY THE WAY 2: COLTRANE 2.25 is available at 7/2 with Trueshan in the race, would 7/2 with a Rule 4 of 50p be perceived value?

1.50
FARHAN (J Butler) beaten favourite last time out, Neil Callan rides
KIHAVAH (A Keatley) beaten favourite last time out, Connor Beasley rides
RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE (I Jardine) beaten favourite last time out, first time cheek pieces, Andrew Mullen rides
ANNANDALE (J Goldie) weighted to win 85 > 81, Amie Waugh rides

2.25
COLTRANE (A Balding) now looks the horse to concentrate on given there was no measurable rain overnight at York for Trueshan. As we go to post Alan King fears the ground may be too quick for his charge! When the new market is formed there might be an opportunity to grab value with Coltrane, Rob Hornby rides.

3.00
NOBLE STYLE (C Appleby) trainer national average 29% and 30% with sprinters. Looked potentially smart when winning debut at Ascot (5f) in May, forced off 3 months with setback, maintained unbeaten record with success at Newmarket (6f) 3 weeks ago. Looks a colt destined for the top.
William Buick rides
MARSHMAN (K R Burke) winner in the last 7 days, Clifford Lee rides

3.35
ROYAL ACCLAIM (J Tate) very exciting prospect, completed hat-trick in Listed at York, Andrea Atzeni rides
RAASEL (M Appleby) beaten favourite last time out, Tom Marquand rides
WINTER POWER (T Easterby) C&D winner, beaten favourite last time out, David Allan rides

4.10
CROACHILL (R Varian) beaten favourite last time out, trainer 22% with handicap debutants and 22% with horses running over 10f+, David Egan rides
SHAMPION (R Varian)
trainer 22% with handicap debutants and 22% with horses running over 10f+, Andrea Atzeni rides

4.45
DESERT ORDER (C Appleby) trainer national average 29%, beaten favourite last time out, sets useful standard, William Buick rides
SALT LAKE CITY (A O'Brien) eye-catching debut at the Curragh, rates the obvious threat, Ryan Moore rides

5.20
LEUVEN POWER (R Varian) progressive, went 2-3 this season in 1m handicap at Salisbury 9 days ago, forging clear 2f out. Andrea Atzeni rides
GOLDEN VOICE (W Haggas) beaten favourite last time out, Tom Marquand rides
BAY OF HONOUR (C Appleby) trainer national average 29%, William Buick rides

JASON WEAVER on YORK

Because they can start racing from a long way out at York, which is a big galloping track, sometimes the last one to challenge has an advantage. Some people think it suits front-runners, but more often than not the one in the lead will get picked off at around the 1f marker. There’s no doubt it’s a quality course, though, wide, with no ridges, lovely sweeping turns and no draw bias. It can become very testing when the ground gets soft - it is KnavesMIRE, after all - and then it really takes some getting.
