FIXTURES

(%): NATIONAL AVERAGE SAW: Since a win E: Entries R: Rides
Friday's results not included...

WINNING FAVOURITES: Winning favourites at Newbury over the past 5 years show 113-294 for 38.44% (-15.71). There is a huge difference, albeit a small sample, between the non-handicap winning favourites and the handicap winning favourites and something best acknowledged. Hurdle and Chase favourites in non-handicaps have very strong figures showing 55-100 for 55% and a level stake profit of +9.80 so a good starting position when considering the card.

TRAINERS: Sometimes we are duty bound to repeat the obvious but the Henderson, Nicholls & Skelton trio won 4 of Friday's races and it could be more of the same tomorrow. Henderson (23%) and Nicholls (24%) both have 5 runners respectively with the former more likely to score, though Philip Hobbs (15%) should win the Grade 2 Novice Chase with THYME HILL 12.45. Joe Tizzard (19%) has 5 runners and 2 with winning chances whilst Dan Skelton has 7 runners, and he also has a couple with winning chances.

JOCKEYS: Harry Cobden (22%) has 5 rides, but we cannot see an obvious winner! We did highlight the lack of form of James Bowen (14%) and in the last two days had winners at 8/1 & 13/2 from 5 rides. Saturday, he has 4 rides at Newbury and will be looking for a win double. Stop at a winner?

OWNERS: Only J P McManus from the leader board has runners tomorrow, they include KAPCORSE 1.20 & PETIT TONNERRE 1.55

BY THE WAY: Could be a big day for Nicky Henderson. He sends out 9 horses to 3 racecourses and could have at least 3 winners and he looks likely to provide the winning forecast for the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle. He scored a win double on Friday and his horses are now running well and hard to oppose. Conversely, we cannot see an obvious winner for Paul Nicholls on this big Saturday's racing, he sends out 6 runners. We could be wrong but 0-6 beckons!

BY THE WAY 2: Stage Star was a big loser for us yesterday and hurting a little this morning! Not able to process the defeat at the moment and heard nothing from the stable, we will get the full SP tomorrow.

NEWBURY RACECOURSE - Mick Fitzgerald

It’s among the fairest courses in the country and you get few hard-luck stories. There’s plenty of time during a race, with two very long straights and two sweeping bends, and you don’t often get too much shimmying or jockeying for position. If you’ve got the right horse, everything seems to happen nice and smoothly. The fences are very fair and, although the cross-fence used to claim a lot of victims, it’s nowhere near as bad now. Newbury is a great place for a novice and, unlike Cheltenham say, where the fences can be tricky for inexperienced horses, it’s really straightforward.
