The Racing Horse offers our Sandown RACECOURSE TEMPLATE for Friday 2 December 2022. There is a 6-race card containing 3 Handicap Chases, a Handicap Hurdle, a Juvenile Hurdle and a Grade 2 Novices' Hurdle. The going is expected to be soft.

WINNING FAVOURITES: Winning favourites at Sandown over the past 5 years show 85-219 for 38.81% at a tiny level stake loss of -0.35 so a strike rate considerably above the national average of around 32%. Winning favourites in non-handicap hurdles and chases show 39-75 for 52% (+1.60) albeit from a small sample.
TRAINERS: A little obvious but once again the meeting looks to be about Paul Nicholls (24%) v Nicky Henderson (23%) with Gary Moore (15%) chipping in. They each have 3 runners and will probably win 4 of the 6 races!
JOCKEYS: From our leading jockeys board we have 2 who have rides for Friday. Harry Cobden (22%) has 4 rides which include NON STOP 1.10, MILAN BRIDGE 1.45, HENRI THE SECOND 2.20 & HUGOS NEW HORSE 3.30, he is almost certain to ride a winner!
Jamie Moore (12%) is in good form and shows 8-23 for 35% over the past 14 days, he has 3 rides including KANSAS DU BERLAIS 1.10, DAREBIN 2.55 & UNIVERSAL SECRET 3.30
Meanwhile Sam Twiston-Davies (15%) is on a horrible losing run of 41 over 17 days and he should be followed from here. He has 3 rides tomorrow all with squeaks, and if he fails to score here, he has 4 more rides at Aintree on Saturday. Will he record 0-48 come Saturday night? Just to remind members his Sandown figures are awful and who could believe he is 2-56 for just 4% (-48.00) over the past 5 years. At Aintree he scores better with 10-76 for 13% (-18.79) We have set aside a small bank and will play his rides in some form if not stop at a winner!
OWNERS: None of the top owners have a runner on Friday
BY THE WAY: Our horse WURLITZER has been given an entry at Wolverhampton on Monday. Information to follow but Alan King had already told us: "Wurlitzer is working well. He has been given plenty of time since his win at Wolverhampton at the end of September and I hope he'll be able to follow up that success when he returns to the track." We look forward to a positive jockey booking and a helpful draw,

SANDOWN - Mick FitzgeraldIt’s a beautiful course to ride, especially down the back straight. Tactically, though, it’s vital to get into position before you get into the bend turning towards the home straight because, if you’re trying to improve your position there, it can lose you the race. The fences in the back straight, especially for a novice, put the emphasis in adaptability. They come at you pretty quick, and they can break the rhythm of an inexperienced horse. Some say that, if you meet the first one right, you’ll meet them all right - but that’s not true. If you meet the first one spot-on, the chances are you’ll either be too long or too short by the last. Sandown’s run-in, although not especially long, can be very demanding, especially when the ground is soft. Horses get lonely on it, and you see plenty wandering off-line, wondering where they’re meant to go. |
