2-2 over fences, progressive and conditions to suit

This 6yo Getaway gelding looks progressive and a natural chaser, and now won both his handicap chases to date. He followed up his debut win at Taunton over 2m2f on good ground with a good success at Lingfield over 2m also on good ground, showing determination and a turn of foot to grab the long time leader close to home. He was made the 11/10 favourite for that race despite the drop of 2f.

His jumping was particularly good on just his second chase and has been given plenty of time and one imagines plenty of schooling before he attempts the hat-trick. The 2m distance looks a bit on the short side and going back up in trip suits as does the ground conditions.

Trainer Form

Trainer Anthony Honeyball has a high national average of 19% (compares favourably with rival trainer Nick Gifford's 10%). Honeyball's figures at Exeter are excellent showing 15-55 for a big 27% and a level stake profit of +2.28 over the past 5 years. His main rival is a 12yo who has won 5 from 17 over the larger obstacles but has to concede 7lbs to the Pacafi. Paddy's Poem confirmed the promise of his belated return when taking a 4-runner handicap chase at Plumpton over 19.8f on soft ground 31 days ago when responding well. With older horses our experience tells us it is hard for them to follow up their last time out wins. He does remain well handicapped and has to be beaten carrying just 2lbs more. His trainer has scored just one win at Exeter in the last 5 years.

Timeform

    It's hard to get away from GABRIEL'S GETAWAY, who has made an excellent start to his chasing career and remains with potential. Last month's Plumpton winner Paddy's Poem looks the obvious danger.

Value

The 5/6 looks north of perceived value given our progressive type has optimum conditions and has to beat a 12yo whilst receiving 7lbs.
