Solid debut and now conditions to suit in weaker race
Je Ne Sais Quoi made her debut at Ascot in a Class 4 Maiden Fillies' Race over 5f on soft ground which was probably not ideal, but she ran a fine race in third and beaten just 2l staying on nicely, and then the winner franked the form good style at Carlisle last Thursday. This daughter of Dandy Man, looks a promising sort and the pick at this early stage and the step up in distance on fast ground should help further. The Ascot race was a Class 4 Fillies' race and looks a lot stronger than this Thirsk Class 5 Maiden.
Optimum Distance?
Regarding optimum distance we accept the sire Dandy Man won at 5f on good to firm ground though did win a race over 6f, the dam was campaigned over 6f to a mile and the full brother Bellagio Man won two races at 6f and one at 7f so the 6f on good ground looks optimum.
Trainer Form
We have talked about William Haggas and his raids/form up north on our Racecourse Template but his record at the course is fantastic showing 17-37 for a massive 46% (+20.82). Of those beaten he scores 6 second places and 4 third places meaning his 1-2-3 score 27-37 for 72.98 showing how competitive his horses are at this track. They are there to win. Cieren Fallon rides.
Contenders
Barg represents a yard that has hit the ground running with its juveniles and he should be monitored in the betting, while Latama and Macarone also appeal based on pedigree.
Timeform
JE NE SAIS QUOI shaped well in a stronger race than this at Ascot on debut and looks the one to beat despite the presence of Latama, who looks an interesting newcomer. Midnight Lir is also quite appealing.
Value
Unless one of the newcomers is better than useful the 11/8 looks north of perceived value and a good paddock and trip to post could mean she starts an odds-on shot!
