CHEPSTOW CONFIGURATION: It is a left-handed, undulating, oval-shaped track, about two miles in extent, with a run-in of five furlongs. While not an out-and-out galloping course, owing to the pronounced undulations, the track puts the emphasis on stamina almost regardless of ground. All races up to a mile are run on the straight course.

FAVOURITES: The sample size at Chepstow is not the biggest so beware a literal translation, but all numbers have value. The course is punter-friendly and a £1 win stake to SP on every race (449 races) produced a profit of +£7.74. Winning favourites at the course show 169-449 for 37.64% so 5% above the national average of 32%. Non-handicap winning favourites score at 45% whilst handicap favourites score at 35%. It is very rare for a racecourse to produce a level stake profit in all age-groups of handicap races (+£13.24).

TRAINERS: Ralph Beckett (17%) scores 31% at the course (+24.65) so MEXICALI ROSE 2.50 is of maximum interest.

Of the top 5 trainers at Chepstow, each position is separated by just 1 winner. As we go to post Tony Carroll (10%) has 7 runners at the course tomorrow whilst John O'Shea (8%) has 4. Paul Evans (11%) has just the 1 runner. The suggestion is a winner will come from this trio and maybe at a price?

JOCKEYS: Today we have 2 jockeys 12 rides, both are taken to ride at least 1 winner! Hollie Doyle (15%) has a full book of 6 rides including FLIP MODE 1.40, CORELLIAN STAR 2.15, LAHAB 2.50, TICKET TO ALASKA 3.25, LUNANERA 3.55 & HOSTELRY 4.30.

Loughnane has made a tremendous start to his racing career and if he manages his weight looks set for a stellar career. OWNERS: Looking at the top owners entries at an individual racecourse is often a good source of winners, on this occasion we have just the one runner to report and it does not shout winner!

International Plywood (18%) has an entry in ATTY'S EDGE 2.15 trained by Christopher Mason (12%) and to be ridden by William Cox (5%).

Chepstow takes a fair bit of getting. Because it’s so up hill and down dale, stamina has to come into play and it’s also worth noting that the straight is quite long, meaning that some horses start to race a lot earlier than is ideal. If you’re on one that wants to make the running, for example, you’ll often get a few keen to take you on earlier than you might like, so patience is vital for a jockey. Long-striding horses can often go well on the straight track but, as it’s quite stiff, they definitely need to get home - Jason Weaver
