Half brother to winners Sound Of Silence (5f-6f 2yo inc Group 3; 110), Silent Bullet (7f 2yo; 104) and Miss Jingles (5f 2yo; 95); third of eleven in 6f novice stakes at Goodwood in May 2022; that race worked out well and he built on it by comfortably winning a 6f maiden at Goodwood in July; defied a penalty in grand style at Newmarket (6f) in August and then won the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes at Kempton (6f) in impressive fashion in early September; fair fourth in Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket (6f) and followed that with a come-from-behind win in Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (5.5f) at Keeneland in November; down the field in a Commonwealth Cup trial at Ascot (6f) in May and the Commonwealth Cup itself in June.
Mischief Magic is a very smart performer. The 3yo Exceed And Excel gelding has won four times from 5f to 6f including a win on Polytrack. He wore the tongue strap on for first time, when below form and 7¼ lengths 8th of 13 to Shaquille in Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot 6f Group 1. He has since been off the track for 103 days and gelded and he is fancied to score eased markedly in class down to a Class 2.
Last November he won the Breeders' Cup Group 1 at Keenland in devastating fashion and if his trainer has him back and somewhere ready he must surely win. The 6f looks his best distance but he won this race over 5½f off a fast pace. Jockey William Buick told us after: "I expected Mischief Magic to be outpaced early, he's a comfortable closer at six furlongs at home so I knew the speed would catch him out early but I know he'd finish off good. He felt super and he really enjoyed coming off the turn. He ran very well in the Middle Park and this is only his sixth race so he's still learning and he enjoys this ground and coming off a turn. Everything's come together for him."
A very useful conditions event with MISCHIEF MAGIC and Brad The Brief expected to fight it out given they drop down from Group 1 company. Marginal preference is for the Godolphin 3-y-o back from a break/gelding operation.
We had the Pacafi closer to 4/5 or 10/11 so the 5/4 looks north of perceived value
