SURFACE: Lingfield AW Racecourse uses Polytrack, the most popular choice of surfaces for AW tracks in the UK. Trainers prefer Polytrack over everything else because it is the fairest surface for horses to race on. This fast surface has little jar with virtually no kickback, meaning horses can enjoy their racing, and because it quickly regains its shape after racing there is less stress on tendons.

FAVOURITES: Winning favourites at Lingfield over the past 5 years show 573-1574 for 36.30% so around +4% above the national average. A £1 stake on favourites at SP shows a loss of -£165.00. All Racecourse Templates are relevant, contextual and pertinent but members have a real edge at Lingfield! Winning favourites in all non-handicaps score 214-411 for a massive 52% and a level stake profit of +£27.77 to a £1 stake. Tomorrow there is just one non-handicap race to work with.
TRAINERS: Top trainer at the track is Andrew Balding (16%) who scores at +5% above his national average. He has 2 runners and both have winning chances, they include LORD MAYOR 11.30 & FACTUAL 1.55 and both will be ridden by Oisin Murphy.
JOCKEY POWER: It is fair to say we have an elite group of jockeys riding the course tomorrow with an aggregate of 24 rides. When the top riders collectively take this many mounts, it usually means two things. They will shape the meeting and market confidence will follow them. Doyle and Loughnane having 7 rides each is particularly notable — a sign their agents have been aggressive and trainers want them on.
Hollie Doyle (13%) 7
Billy Loughnane (15%) 7
Luke Morris (10%) 4
Oisin Murphy (21%) 2
Tom Marquand (15%) 2
Ryan Moore (20%) 2
Total 24
OWNERS: Of our top owners at the course, only Robert Moss has an interest in MUY MUY LOCO 3.40, trained by Simon Dow and ridden by Hollie Doyle. The trainer operates at around 9% but with Hollie in the saddle they score 6-45 for 13% (+2.17) and this C&D winner has drawn stall 2. The suggestion is to run well without winning?
GREEN FLAG: TRH casts a keen eye over the exceptional Billy Loughnane, a young rider whose upward trajectory shows no sign of slowing. His progress has been relentless, his confidence unmistakable, and tomorrow he arrives armed with 7 opportunities to make his mark on a card stacked with top‑class jockey talent. His rides include ONYEISI 11.30, ZOOKS 12.05, ZOULU CHIEF 12.40, UNASSUMING 1.15, PINATUBO'S LEGACY 1.55, PINJARRA 2.30 & EM JAY KAY 3.05. This is the kind of schedule reserved for riders trusted by trainers and feared by rivals. Each mount offers a different puzzle, and Loughnane has shown time and again that he thrives on variety — sharp sprinters, tricky handicappers, progressive types, he handles them all with the same cool assurance. He will enjoy pitching his wits against the best jockeys in the UK, and this will be our personal highlight of the meeting.

TRH first crossed paths with him on the day he rode his very first winner at Chepstow, and even then it was clear we were watching a rider with something special. He was grounded, sharp, and already thinking like a professional. When we asked whether weight management might become an issue — the curse of so many young jockeys — he brushed it aside with quiet confidence. He’s riding at 8st 8lb and is determined not to let a single extra pound creep on at this stage of his career.
We’ve listened back to three of his Chepstow victories, and the quality of his post‑race analysis genuinely impressed us. Each time, he broke the race down with striking clarity — discussing the pace, explaining exactly where he wanted to position himself, and then outlining the Plan B he had ready if things didn’t unfold as expected. It was the sort of insight you’d expect from Oisin Murphy.
The numbers back up his discipline, knowledge and feedback. He produced 34 winners in December, the best monthly haul of his career, and in September he took an extraordinary 153 rides, a workload that only the most trusted and in‑demand jockeys ever see.
What continues to puzzle us is how John and Thady Gosden have not made more use of him. He has ridden 7 for them only, yet delivered 3 winners — a remarkable 43% strike‑rate for a yard that is openly searching for a long‑term number one. It feels like an opportunity hiding in plain sight.
By contrast, Charlie Appleby has shown unwavering belief. Their partnership is blossoming into something formidable: 24 wins from 48 rides for a 50% strike‑rate and +9.81 to SP. With William Buick edging toward 40, this could be the moment Appleby shapes his next great jockey alliance.
His link‑up with George Boughey is another pillar of his rise. Together they’ve produced 129 winners from 709 rides (18%) and are now nudging £2 million in prize money — a testament to consistency, trust, and a shared upward trajectory.
This is a rider not just improving, but accelerating. The foundations are already there; the ceiling is still unknown.
