At Fishers Cross is on target for the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury's Hennessy meeting on Saturday 30th November 2013

The ride on Ladbrokes World Hurdle second-favourite At Fishers Cross at Newbury's Hennessy meeting looks up for grabs after regular rider  AP McCoy indicated he would be partnering My Tent Or Yours at Newcastle the same day. At Fishers Cross, winner of the Albert Bartlett at last season's Cheltenham Festival, has yet to get his season started after suffering a minor injury the evening before he was due to run at Wetherby this month.

Tricky decision for McCoy

Trainer Rebecca Curtis has identified the bet365 Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury on 30 November 2013 as the 6yos next race but that clashes with the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle in which McCoy is set to be on My Tent Or Yours, also owned by McManus. It was a tricky decision for the champion jockey but he seems to have sided with the Nicky Henderson-trained My Tent Or Yours, a 6/1 shot for the Stan James Champion Hurdle. Speaking to The Morning Line on Saturday, he said: "For the last number of years I've been at Newcastle riding in the Fighting Fifth and it'll probably be the same again this year."

We knew from the start he was a very good horse - Rebecca Curtis

Curtis has now mapped out her plans for the 6yo this season, she told us: "He's in great form. It was unfortunate he missed Wetherby with a bang to his knee so the plan now is Newbury at the end of the month for the Long Distance Hurdle there and hopefully we'll have him spot on for that. We knew from the start he was a very good horse, he had a few physical problems which hampered his jumping the season before but with them sorted out he gained confidence through the whole season so we hope he keeps going the same way this year. I hope Cheltenham and Aintree will be on the agenda again. He'll go to Newbury at the end of this month then we'll look at the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot at the end of December and then we'll think of the World Hurdle in March. Whether he'd run between December and March we'd have to look at the options and judge him on his next two runs, but that's his main target."

Progressive last season

Having started off in a novice hurdle at Ffos Las in November, the gelding went on to win at both the Cheltenham and Aintree festival meetings. His handicap mark was just 122 when he won at Newbury on 1st December but he closed the season rated 157. His victories included a neck defeat of 2014 Champion Hurdle favourite The New One at Cheltenham and his sights are set on the World Hurdle this season.

The Racing Horse was previously convinced that he need soft or heavy to win the big race as all of his victories prior to Aintree had come on ground officially soft or heavy but he handled good to soft ground to record his easiest win of the season.
