Bolted up by six lengths over today's trip!

Not sure if it was the first-time headgear that appeared to work the oracle for Zmhar on last week’s reappearance at Chelmsford but he bolted up by six lengths over today’s trip and can shrug off a penalty with Oisin Murphy keeping the winning partnership intact. Winning so easily trainer James Tate is wise to get him out again under a 6lb penalty because the assessor has taken revenge by way of a 13lb hike so in effect he is at least 7lbs well in without any improvement.

 We are reminded the colt was off for six months before making his handicap debut so it is perfectly reasonable to expect him to improve for the run and especially after he got away to such a poor start and raced in the last two early on. To win he had to come from a long way back, but there was no arguing with the way he quickened up next to the inside rail and he ultimately won pulling a cart. The handicapper will punish him for this performance.

We are hopeful - James Tate

Trainer James Tate told us: "Zmhar settled well in a first time hood at Chelmsford and I told Oisin Murphy he could keep the ride even though he won too far! He has a 7lb penalty but is 6lb well-in on his future mark so we're hopeful." The trainer is in great form with 3 of his last 6 runners winning! From his last 7 runners he has also two second-places and a third place. 2019 shows 8-32 for 25% and a level-stake profit of +1.25. At Lingfield he does well and has recorded 28-153 for 18%. The current year is 2-5 for 40% (+2.94) and when the trainer combines with Oisin Murphy they hit 7-30 for 23%.

Of his rivals

Black Medick scored over track and trip earlier and drops back down in class after a modest effort last time. On The Line is having his second start after wind surgery with blinkers added today while Laxmi returns to action, though may do better this year. The unexposed Assimilation was narrowly beaten in novice company here recently and another to make his handicap debut and this one looks the danger.

Timeform

ZMHAR was seriously impressive when blowing a Chelmsford handicap apart on last week's reappearance, and on that evidence, he will follow up under a penalty. Assimilation and On The Line head the opposition.

Value

On this occasion it is hard to find a rival to make us nervous. We need a good paddock and a reasonable passage/trip to win. Assimilation is unexposed but the trainer is not in great form. The 4/6 taken must be on the right side of value...
