St Leger Group 1 entry catches the eye
The 3yo colt is bred to appreciate a step up in trip, he has an entry in the William Hill St Leger Stakes (Group 1) over 1m6f115y confirming the horse will stay and held in some regard. The 300,000gns yearling finished second past the post at Windsor on debut before being handed the race by the stewards following interference and, despite a penalty, Saeed bin Suroor's charge is fancied to follow up.
Trainer form
Trainer Saeed bin Suroor is coming into form with his horses and he has a stack of handicappers that are Group class. On Sunday we will post a short blog about him but suffice it to say he is worth following from here...
Of his rivals
Ritchie Valens has been running well in better races than this so will appreciate the drop in grade. Zephyrina won on an easier surface at Chepstow and carries a penalty. The danger looks to be Aladaala who is making her Turf debut but was a shade keen at Chelmsford on her reappearance and probably came up against a couple of useful fillies. She has scope but has to beat the Pacafi who is a colt and she has to prove she acts on the surface.
Timeform
Saeed bin Suroor took this race 12 months ago and his GLOBAL HUNTER could be the answer here after overcoming considerable inexperience to make a winning debut at Windsor 19 days ago. There was plenty to like about Aladaala's Chelmsford third 3 weeks ago and she looks the main threat ahead of Ritchie Valens.
Value
Accepting the Pacafi has to give weight to a potentially good filly our colt will improve massively from debut, appreciate the step up in trip and has a Group 1 entry running in a Class 5 Novice. The trainer is coming into form and must be followed from here and Oisin Murphy has been asked to ride. The 11/10 secured must be value! A good paddock and Global Hunter could easily start 8/11. We respect the Haggas filly but she will have to take to the track and conditions and run a RPR of over 90 to win.
