BRITISH FLAT JOCKEYS' CHAMPIONSHIP

The Racing Horse has thoroughly enjoyed the battle for the British Flat jockeys' championship, and for once will not mind who wins. From our betting perspective/profit we particularly admire Buick's 21% national average against a huge volume of rides., but we have met Oisin and he was such a lovely young fella and so polite!

The Racing Horse records their rides.
Oisin Murphy: BEYOND EQUAL 2.20, MAGISTERIAL 3.30, TWISTED REALITY 4.05, SUPERIOR FORCE 4.40, WHITEHAVEN 5.10 ✓✓
William Buick: SUANNI 1.15, NOTEABLE 1.45, CHAIRMANOFTHEBOARD 2.20, MYTHICAL DANCER 2.55, KAASIRR 3.30, POET'S LADY 4.05, DUKEDOM 4.40 and SOCIALLY SHADY 5.10 ✓

  • FAVOURITES: Winning favourites at Haydock show 281-778 for 36.12% (-44.61) so a strike rate above the national average. Best category are both the 3yo & 4yos in non-handicaps showing 60-139 for 43% (-6.72), so with good housekeeping/good filtration a level stake profit is easily possible. Winning 3yo favourites in handicaps already secures a profit with 89-240 for 37% (+9.11) and once again easily above the national average of around 32%.
  • TRAINERS: Five of our top trainers have runners including Charlie Appleby (1), J & T Gosden  (2), Roger Varian (1), Michael Stoute (1) and William Haggas (2), and one imagines a winner or two from their 7 entries. Leading trainer at the course Tom Dascombe has 5 entries but Karl Burke has 6. ✓✓
  • COLD LIST TRAINERS: Hugo Palmer (39), Michael Dods (37) and Karl Burke (33) have big numbers on the cold list, with the latter running 6 tomorrow. All three will have a winner sooner rather than later, whether it is tomorrow is another matter. ✓
  • JOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP: The epic and exciting battle for the British Flat jockeys' championship between Oisin Murphy (150 winners) and William Buick (148 winners) will be foremost in the minds of punters over the last few days of racing! Oisin has 5 rides at Haydock but William has 8. Could Saeed bin Suroor have helped the Godolphin retained jockey a little more? ✓✓✓
  • JOCKEYS: Richard Kingscote is easily top jockey at Haydock over the past 5 years and he has 5 more rides tomorrow. ✓
  • COLD LIST JOCKEY: Ryan Moore is currently 0-37, he has 3 rides tomorrow, will he record 0-40? Ben Curtis (28), and Luke Morris (19) will be looking to get off the cold list also. They have 4 and 5 rides respectively.
  • OWNERS: Godolphin and The Queen both have a single runner at the course tomorrow but Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum have two runners. One imagines one of these four entries will produce a winner.

Please note: EVERY TRAINER has a NATIONAL AVERAGE - BUT WHAT IS IT?

JASON WEAVER - HAYDOCK RACECOURSE

Haydock is a lovely galloping track and on fast ground, despite the long straight, you can get away from your field and prove very hard to peg back. It’s completely different when conditions are softer, though, requiring more patient tactics. In distance races, there’s an advantage to be had in the back straight by switching sides as the course turns. There used to be a huge bias in favour of the stands’ rail in soft ground and, while it’s less pronounced these days, I’m still a believer in taking that route.
