CHEPSTOW CONFIGURATION: Left handed, undulating. Oval-shaped track, about two miles in extent, with a run-in of 5 furlongs. All races at up to a mile are run on the straight course. While not an out-and-out galloping course, owing to the pronounced undulations, the track puts the emphasis on stamina almost regardless of ground.

FAVOURITES: It's official, Chepstow is a punter-friendly racecourse and we have the receipts. Over the past 5  years winning favourites at the course show 149-386 for 38.60% so +5% above the national average. Note, all 3 categories (age-groups) of winning favourites in handicaps produce a profit to level stakes and score well above the national average of 29%, something very unusual in a Racecourse Template! Best category for winning strike rate are 3yo winning favourites in non-handicaps who show 23-46 for 54% (-2.31).

TRAINERS: There are 2 form trainers who each send a runner. Muir & Grassick (13%) are 8-39 for 21% (+1.55) over the past month or so and send STOCKPYLE 2.48, whilst James Owen (22%) scores 12-67 for 18% (-1.00) and he sends ALBERT CEE 3.48 (166 miles).

Tony Carroll (10%) is top trainer at the course and has his horses in fantastic form scoring 11-43 for 26% (+51.03) in the last 14 days, the best figures for him we can remember! He is on course to beat his personal best in January 2020 where he scored 15 winners. He has 3 runners here tomorrow in MOON OVER THE SEA 2.18, GLAMOROUS EXPRESS 3.48 & GLAMOROUS STAR 4.18.

Ralph Beckett (18%) is the number one seed on show tomorrow and he scores 33% at the course so +15% above his national average. He runs the 2yo filly WAKING DREAM 3.18 and based on her debut run has a bit to find, but that is possible.

JOCKEYS: Looking at the card composition it could be a good day for claiming jockeys.

Hollie Doyle (15%) is top jockey at Chepstow this year scoring 3-7 for 43% (+15.80) and over the past 5 years showing 22-84 for 26% (+14.79) so scoring +11% above her national average. Her rides must be processed here and her 4 rides include FEERAAS 3.18, COCO BEAR 3.48, SISTERS IN THE SKY 4.18 & DOURADO 4.55.

Laura Pearson (10%) is in the doldrums and currently 0-65 over a period of 94 days and 0-20 at Chepstow all time. This year she is just 4-103 for less than 4%, last year she rode 27 winners, so disparity in action. She has a single ride on the 5yo mare DOLLY GRAY 3.48 who is a last time out winner for David Loughnane. Her last run was 276 days ago but the mare shows good form when fresh and has a place chance. TRH hopes to speak to Laura tomorrow and wish her well!

OWNERS: The top owners at individual courses are often a good source of winners and our top 3 have 5 runners between them.

RED FLAG: Racecourse Templates are organic and largely devoid of opinion, and with this in mind the card composition suggests it could be a good day for claimers. Gina Mangan (10%) is second top jockey only to Hollie Doyle at Chepstow and she rides the course well at +6%. Jack Doughty (14%) is riding particularly well and over the last month or so records 9-49 for 18% (-2.25) and has 3 rides. At the other end of fortune there are 3 claiming jockeys with rides of interest, Sean D Bowen (6%) is currently 0-21 over 12 days and has 3 rides. Joe Leavy (8%) is also running cold showing 0-18 over 15 days and he has 4 rides. Callum Hutchinson (9%) has ridden 7 winners at the course and has 3 rides. Hollie & The Claimers sounds like a country and western band and this might be an angle into the meeting!

Chepstow takes a fair bit of getting. Because it’s so up hill and down dale, stamina has to come into play and it’s also worth noting that the straight is quite long, meaning that some horses start to race a lot earlier than is ideal. If you’re on one that wants to make the running, for example, you’ll often get a few keen to take you on earlier than you might like, so patience is vital for a jockey. Long-striding horses can often go well on the straight track but, as it’s quite stiff, they definitely need to get home - Jason Weaver

      Thanks for your kind comments!

It was very gratifying today because 3 people at Chepstow have asked to sign up.

I have said it before a few times but the organic nature of the templates makes this sort of thing possible. Had a great day at Chepstow today and thanks to Lindsay and Cat for making it so! Love this racecourse!

And now we prepare for Hamilton which has some interesting numbers and then Ascot on Saturday.

      Thanks again

      Paul
