FAVOURITES: The beauty of the Kempton Racecourse Template is the sample size. It is our biggest aggregation and one we can trust (relatively speaking). Winning favourites at Kempton over the past 5 years show 766-2172 for 35.27% (-200.05) so nicely above the national average. Favourites in non-handicaps win at 44% whilst just 31% in handicaps. The best category for winning favourites at this course is 3yos in non-handicaps showing 131-273 for 48% (-14.48).
TRAINERS: Charlie Appleby (29%) is currently treading ground never walked onto before! In the UK we have John Gosden and grateful for his contribution, now we have Appleby, and he is taking things to another level. We take a look at his Kempton AW figures bearing in mind he often has multiple runners in the same race thus diluting his strike rates:
Current Year: 12-33 for 36% (-10.80)
Last 5 Years: 52-148 for 35% (-24.03)
All Time: 122-408 for 30% (-18.90)
Appleby has 2 runners for Wednesday and our advice is always the same, if you are not backing one of his runners here, then best not to back against him!
John Gosden (21%) supplies 2 runners in the 4.40 including the favourite KENSINGTON to be ridden by the South African Collen Storey (8%) who is 0-1 at Kempton, this is his second ride for the Gosden team, a race to watch. That said, is the current price of 15/8 lay material?
At the other end of the scale, we have the disappointing Richard Hannon (11%).
He is on another big losing run and currently 46 runners since a win over the past 14 days. His national average has dropped from 12% and his strike rate is at odds with his expensive ammunition. We can never understand why or how he gets away with it! At Kempton he shows 59-575 for just 10% and a massive loss of -175.65 to level stakes, no other top trainer in the UK has his lowly strike rate figures from a £ to horse ratio/perspective. He has 3 runners tomorrow and Supreme King 6.25 looks the one likeliest to end his dismal run!
JOCKEYS: Leading riders at the track David Probert (11%) has 8 rides whilst Tom Marquand (14%) has 6, one imagines winners coming from this duo. William Buick (22%) has just the 3 rides on this occasion with HIGHER LAW 5.50 looking his best chance of a winner!
OWNERS: Godolphin (24%) have 5 runners, they are FEEL THE MOMENT & BEDOUIN QUEEN 4.40, HIGHER LAW 5.50, TOMOUH 7.00 and MUTAFAWWIG 7.30
King Power (14%) has 2 runners in LIBER POWER 6.25 & SHINE SO BRIGHT 7.30 both trained by Andrew Balding, and a winner beckons.
BY THE WAY: We continually marvel at the skill of Charlie Appleby and what he has brought to Godolphin, but we remind ourselves of Saeed bin Suroor's numbers at this course. His all-time record is sensational showing 156-572 for a massive 27% (+21.74) winning £1,343,716 at the course. He has 3 runners today and should be involved at the business end with horses priced at bigger odds!

JASON WEAVER on KEMPTON
The way the track is prepared at Kempton can play a massive part in whether it suits front-runners or horses coming from behind. Most of the time, the going is officially rated ‘standard’ but I know, from having ridden in America, that all artificial surfaces are dependent on weather conditions. An inside draw is a big advantage on the round course, as you don’t want to be running wide, and there’s a tendency for jockeys to get going a long from home. My preference would be to use patient tactics. |
