CHEPSTOW CONFIGURATION: Left handed, undulating. Oval-shaped track, about two miles in extent, with a run-in of 5 furlongs. All races at up to a mile are run on the straight course. While not an out-and-out galloping course, owing to the pronounced undulations, the track puts the emphasis on stamina almost regardless of ground.

Over the past 5 years winning favourites at the course show 159-426 for 37.32% so around +5% above the national average. Best category for winning strike rate are 3yo winning favourites in non-handicaps who show 22-43 for 51% (-5.27).  Worst category for strike rate are 4yo winning favourites in handicaps showing 13-40 for 33% (-6.47).

Only 2 of our top 5 trainers have an interest for this meeting. Christopher Mason (15%) has a single runner in ALL WAYS GLAMOROUS 7.30 who is a 4yo gelding and a course and distance winner who likes fast ground, to be ridden by Saffie Osborne (12%).

David Evans (11%) has 2 runners including GAIETY MUSICAL 6.00 & ULTRAMARINE 7.00. Hard to fancy either for win purposes, so both look to have place chances only...

COLD LIST TRAINERS: Charlie Hills (14%) & Ed Walker (14%) are both 0-24, we can expect them to come off the cold list sooner rather than later!

He has 5 rides including BOB MALI 5.30, KING'S LYNN 6.30, ESTRELLA DIVINA 7.00, LIEBER POWER 8.00 & CITY OF DELIGHT 8.30 and we can expect him to be ultra-competitive as usual.

RED FLAG: On completion of a Racecourse Template there is always information shouting at you, sometimes obvious, sometimes not! On this occasion we return to jockeyship, and if we were asked for the best angle in to this particular meeting, it would be carefully process the rides of four jockeys, for the reasons the template describes. Danny Tudhope, Kevin Stott, Saffie Osborne and David Probert will surely feature heavily throughout the night. Between them they have 22 rides and reasonable to expect at least 3 winners from them and a significant number of placings.

Every jockey booking ever made has a negative or positive impact or quality quotient, and this allegorical number varies from day to day and course to course. It is difficult, but this help versus hinder estimate must be factored-in when profiling a race. Read more...

Chepstow takes a fair bit of getting. Because it’s so up hill and down dale, stamina has to come into play and it’s also worth noting that the straight is quite long, meaning that some horses start to race a lot earlier than is ideal. If you’re on one that wants to make the running, for example, you’ll often get a few keen to take you on earlier than you might like, so patience is vital for a jockey. Long-striding horses can often go well on the straight track but, as it’s quite stiff, they definitely need to get home - Jason Weaver
