SELECTIONS FOR THE PACAFI  7th October 2016

SHOULD HAVE WON ON DEBUT!

Raheen House is a son of Sea The Stars and a full brother to 1m2f winner Shraaoh (RPR 98) and has a Racing Post Trophy entry. He made a very encouraging debut on fast ground at Newbury over a mile where he should have won. He ran green but was stuck in a pocket behind rivals and he simply got out too late to launch a meaningful challenge. He would have won with a clear run.

HOLDS RACING POST ENTRY SO HIGHLY REGARDED

Next up he ran in a Class 2 Conditions race and was heavily backed into 11/8 so expected to win though this time it was soft going. He got beat by Temple Church a horse he had previously beaten by 3l on debut but couldn´t confirm the form on this more demanding ground. He got the trip well, though, and is evidently well regarded as he's his trainer's only entry in the Racing Post Trophy. He has taken today's engagement rather than an easier one at Yarmouth on Monday.

TRAINER FORM IS A BIT HIT AND MISS THOUGH 0-18 AT YORK

Brian Meehan has his horses running well and has recorded two winners from his last eight runners in the last week. These figures largely disqualify his average September statistics showing 3-38 for 8%. York is a splendid course with a long run-in sweeping turns and virtually no undulations, making it a galloping horses dream. It is fair to every style of horse but for some reason Meehan has a miserable 0-18 over the last five seasons. We have set aside this horror statistic.

OF HIS RIVALS

Native Prospect has run his best races on testing ground so some rain would aid his cause while conditions were on the soft side when On To Victory ran easily his best race to date at Newbury last month. There are some nicely-bred newcomers on show with Meyandi, a half-brother to seven winners, possibly the best of them.

The going at York is good to firm, good in places and that is optimum ground for Raheen House

TIMEFORM COMMENTS

It's hard to oppose Raheen House, who has finished runner-up in a pair of decent contests at Newbury and an entry in the Racing Post Trophy suggests that connections have high hopes for this well-bred colt. Native Prospect improved when going close at Ffos Las and is marginally preferred to On To Victory and Glorvina for forecast purposes. Crushed and Lord Commander are newcomers to note.

Today's Pacafi: Raheen House 4.30 York at 5/4 (Bet365) is a Pacafi. 1pt win advised and value is better than 8/11
