The Racing Horse has enjoyed this particular National Hunt Season at Chepstow more than any other, so take this opportunity to thank General Manager Lindsay Knox for all her professionalism, commitment and hard work! On a personal note we have witnessed and benefitted both from her energy and friendliness and proven to be a great appointment.

We asked Lindsay how much she has enjoyed this season, she told us: "My first NH season has gone very well, we like a lot of tracks have been challenged due to the weather, but the Chepstow team have worked incredible hard to make sure we have raced when possible. The Unibet jump season opener was a very special weekend due to us running The Unibet Welsh Jump Jockeys Derby, it was a charity race that raised over £25k for the local charity Latch, an organisation supporting families of children in Wales with cancer and leukaemia."

She continued: "Betsy Williams, daughter of Welsh racehorse trainer Christian was diagnosed with leukaemia last year. The whole racing community has been supporting the family and it was very important to Chepstow Racecourse we also did our part."

The highlight of any Chepstow Racecourse year is the Welsh Grand National and one can only imagine the amount of meticulous preparation and hard work that goes on behind the scenes by all those involved.

Lindsay confirmed: "My first Welsh Grand was amazing, but mother nature certainly tested us. Out of all the dates on Chepstow's calendar the Welsh Grand National is the one that everyone talks about and to see all the preparation come to life was fantastic! The day welcomed 6,000 visitors and everything went well despite the Welsh weather."

The race was won by Nassalam for Gary Moore. After winning at Chepstow on 9 December over 2m7½f on heavy ground he promised to stay the 3m2½f distance of the Welsh National on soft ground, but most were surprised to see jockey Caoilin Quinn committing his ride a very long way out, but Nassalam kept going for him winning by a massive 34 lengths.

The Racing Horse has been going racing to Chepstow since 1971 and each visit gives us a thrill and has now become an integral part of our life. With 29 meetings in 2024, both flat and jump racing, you can be sure there will be a fixture to suit you, your friends and family.
