River Tara to be ridden by Patrick is in the 2m 1f mares bumper. She was second at Kilbeggan on her first run for us and the form of that race has worked out well. We are happy with her at home and a reproduction of the Kilbeggan run may enable her to go one better here - Willie Mullins
Looks a winner without a penalty
River Tara looks a winner without a penalty. She duly showed much improved form on her first start for the champion trainer, something that was clearly anticipated by the market. She had every chance and looked the likeliest winner but was worried out of it close to home, where she lugged into the winner who had the rail to help. The form was boosted when the winner finished second subsequently in a Punchestown winners' contest. Given the greenness we can expect Patrick to ride her a little differently this time over the final furlong and will keep distance from any challenger!
Trainer Form
The form of the trainer Willie Mullins is astounding with the last 14 days showing 9-14 for 64%. June shows 12-19 for 63% (+5.01) and May 23-48 for 48% (+18.03) so his season's numbers so far are 35-67 for 52.24% and a level stake profit of +23.04, amazing stuff! His combination with son and jockey Patrick show 121-323 for 37% in NHF races over the past 5 years and 511-1446 for 35% all time.
Contender
Gaye Winnie acquitted herself well in two maiden hurdles when last seen but has yet to race in bumper company. Provided this trip isn't on the sharp side, the Gordon Elliott-trained Walk In The Park mare should be capable of making her presence felt and probably the danger. Gone For Tea and Air Drop make their bumper debuts and the market will give us clues to place chances.
Timeform
RIVER TARA made a positive start for Willie Mullins when second at Kilbeggan a couple of months ago and she looks well capable of going one better at the likely expense of Air Drop, who was fourth in a novice hurdle at Listowel recently. Gaye Winnie is the pick of the remainder.
Value
Given the words of Willie Mullins and the form of the Kilbeggan run means the 8/15 looks perceived value.
River Tara traded at a low of 1.44 and Betfair SP of 2.39 when losing last time, a race in which it led and travelled strongly early on.
