The Wolferton Stakes is one of the newest races at the Royal Ascot festival (established 2002) and open to runners aged 4yo and older. This is the fourth year of the Wolferton being a Listed race (rather than a Listed handicap) over 1m2f on the round course. It usually features a double-figure field where they meet a bend after a furlong, so the draw can be important. What is a low draw since the switch of stall numbers 10 seasons ago has been an advantage as 12 of the last 16 winners at Ascot were drawn in what are now single-figure stalls. Addeybb managed to overcome that two years ago but he did go on to win two Group 1s in Australia and the Champion Stakes. The draw is also easier to overcome on soft ground which was the case in his year.
John Gosden is the most successful trainer in the race winning the race 4 times and two of those ridden by William Buick which makes him the leading jockey.

Trainer form is a decisive and indicative test and removes a concatenation of random factors, opinion and bias. In a general sense it suggests/confirms/proves the well-being of the stable’s horses whilst delivering an up to the minute litmus test on readiness to run positively. Conversely, and assuming one does not have that specific inside information which contains an edge, backing the horses of trainers on the cold list must be at least unwise. |

The trends are not a great help for this race. Blue Cap is a low-mileage 5yo who took apart a useful field in Epsom handicap over this trip in a first-time hood on Oaks Day, storming clear from Victory Chime. Should get a good pace here and can go well again. THE RACING HORSE VERDICT: 1: Blue Cap 8/1 4th 2: Forest Of Dean 10/1 12th 3: Felix 7/1 6th |
