CHEPSTOW CONFIGURATION: Chepstow is a left-handed, undulating, oval course, nearly two miles around with eleven fences to a circuit, a five-furlong home straight and a run-in of 250 yards. Conditions can be very testing. With five fences in the straight, the first part of which is downhill, front runners - or those leading into the straight - do well here, especially over shorter distances, and the fences don't claim the number of casualties that might be expected.

FAVOURITES: Chepstow is a punter friendly racecourse. The last 5 years show 165 winning favourites from 448 races  for 36.83% so nearly +5% above the national average. Non-handicap winning favourites score 83-186 for 45% whilst handicap winning favourites score 82-262 for 31%.

TRAINERS: Paul Nicholls (24%) is the top trainer at Chepstow and has 3 runners including HURRICANE DANNY & ISAAC DES OBEAUX 12.30 and BELOW THE RADAR 3.55. Hard to ignore his runners here.

Evan Williams (11%) has 7 entries at the course tomorrow, they include ASK BREWSTER 12.30, LIBBERTY HUNTER 1.05, EVERYONESACRITIC 1.40, SECRET PLAN 2.15, KYM EYRE 2.50, TO BE SURE 3.25 & THE BIG MAN 3.55.

Sam Thomas (21%) scores 25% with his chasers so up +4% against his national average. He has 1 runner for his patron owner Dai Walters in JUST OVER LAND 2.15 though in  a hurdle race, the trainer shows 4-7 for 57% at Chepstow this current year.

Hobbs & White (12%) have joined the cold list and currently 0-27 over a period of 23 days. They have 3 runners for this meeting including LIVIN ON LUCO 12.30, LOWRY'S BAR 1.40 & DON'T WIND ME UP 3.55. The team look certain to score!

JOCKEYS: Adam Wedge (13%) has 5 rides at the meeting, Ben Jones (14%) has 3 whilst Sam Twiston-Davies (15%) has 3 also and the suggestion is this trio should be amongst the winners given their respective rides!

OWNERS: William Rucker (14%) has 2 runners including LIBBERTY HUNTER 1.05 & SECRET PLAN 2.15 both trained by Evan Williams and ridden by Adam Wedge.

Dai Walters (19%) has 2 runners at this meeting in the same race. He has course and distance winner SLIP ROAD 2.15 trained by Peter Bowen and ridden by James Bowen, and JUST OVER LAND trained by Sam Thomas and ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies. The suggestion is the owner has targeted this race and will win it! We are playing win bet and stake saver!

RED FLAG: It was great to see Dai Walters (19%) going racing last weekend after his horrific helicopter crash a year ago. He has teamed up to great effect with trainer Sam Thomas and the combination now stands at 34-161 for 21% (-17.89). Thomas trains at the bottom of Dai Walters' garden in Lisvane which is to the north of Cardiff and this combined operation will only strengthen. His number one trainer is still Nicky Henderson where they combine to score 52-141 for a big 37% and a level stake profit of +52.09.

Walters told us he enjoys buying good young horses and his angle into horse racing, this is reflected with his NHF numbers over the last 5 years showing 14-57 for 25% and a level stake profit of +30.87.

Record times for Chepstow are very quick, which shows how slick it can be when the ground is fast, but horses can finish strung out like washing when it gets soft. Punters really must take note of conditions then, if they’re having a bet, because horses with stamina limitations can get home when the going is right for them, while it can be a real slog when it’s heavy. The other things to consider seriously are the undulations and the downhill run from the last. If you walk round the course, for example, you’ll be aware that, from several places out in the country, you can’t see the stands. The run-in, on the other hand, is quite steeply downhill, very quick on fast ground, and that’s why you often see horses make a mistake at the final jump - Mick Fitzgerald
