Won not hard pressed and likely to follow up under a penalty

Be Aware is a brother to connections' useful hurdler/chaser Lac de Constance and looked above average when making a successful start in a 16-runner Newbury Novice on hurdling debut when coming through strongly late on to win not hard pressed. He is open to any amount of improvement and likely to defy a penalty. He held a Sandown entry on Thursday but the Skelton's have decided on Lingfield on soft ground.

Sire and ground

The sire Martaline's best-known progeny has been another grey, Dynaste, a winner of the Ryanair Chase who performed admirably against the likes of Cue Card and Silviniaco Conti, while others such as Disko, Agrapart, Very Wood and Kotkikova represented him well. His most prolific winner was Edward D'Argent who won 13 mostly on soft to heavy and heavy ground. Be Aware's full sister Lac De Constance has won 4 races, 3 on soft ground and 1 on good to soft so no excuses with the ground conditions today!

One of our nicer novice hurdlers - Tom Messenger

After winning his debut Tom Messenger (assistant to Dan Skelton) told us: " We've always thought Be Aware was a nice horse and we know the family well as we've got his older brother Lac De Constance. He was capable of winning so it's not a surprise, but it was just whether he was up to it mentally. Lac De Constance has had a setback and is out for the season, so it's nice this lad has come out and can take over ? he's probably one of the nicer novice hurdlers we've got."

Contenders

Yellow Star showed fairly useful form at best on the Flat for Richard Hannon. He was bought for 22,000gns in October and shaped as if he'd benefit from the experience when third in a juvenile at Kempton a month ago so makes plenty of appeal. Yet to better a third place in 5 starts under rules.

Timeform View

BE AWARE had a bit to spare when making a successful start at Newbury three weeks ago, so he's preferred to Yellow Star, who showed plenty when third in a juvenile at Kempton last month. Dominic's Fault also has the potential for better.

Perceived value

The even money looks perceived value and would have taken 10/11 or even 4/5!

For those who do not have the time, confidence or know-how, one might seek a tipster or advisor, but any wager remains the sole responsibility of the bettor. One cannot employ a tipster/advisor then relinquish responsibility for the wager. The onus is always on the individual to understand the modus operandi, strike rate and parameters in which the advisor is working to, and fully appreciate whether these components suit their particular risk versus reward mentality.
