FFOS LAS Racecourse Template (Friday 15 March 2024)

Posted by Paul Moon in Blog | Leave a comment

The Racing Horse offers our Ffos Las Racecourse Template for Friday 15 March 2024. There is a 6-race card and the going is expected to be heavy and resulted in small field sizes (just 29 runners in total for the whole meeting), rendering our template of limited value on this occasion. Apologies to Ceri, his son, Dai and Vernon and all our friends from Alltwen who were looking forward to a fabulous meeting.

FAVOURITES: Winning favourites over the past 5-years at the course show 163-448 for 36.38% and a level stake loss of -43.27 to a £1 stake. Winning favourites in non-handicaps show 55-142 for 39% (-38.48) whilst winning favourites in handicaps show 108-306 for 35% (-4.79).

TRAINERS: Top trainer at the course is Evan Williams (11%) and he has 6 runners including MOUNT WASHINGTON 1.55, MUMBLES 2.35, FOLLOWANGO 3.15, WALKINTHEWOODS 3.55, LELANT 4.35 & HONEY I'M GOOD 5.10. Stop at a winner?

Ben Pauling (14%) sends a single runner from Gloucestershire in BLUELLA BRESIL 3.15 and Ben Jones rides. The trainer had his second best month ever last month scoring 12-42 for 29% (+16.38).

JOCKEYS: Top jockey at the course is Sean Bowen (19%) and he has ridden 72 winner here. He has 3 rides including LARGY FORCE 3.15, DOUBLE CLICK 3.55 & BREIZH ALKO 5.10

Ben Jones has been in brilliant form this season and improved massively. He has 4 rides of interest including HAITI COULEURS 1.55, BLUELLA BRESIL 3.15, MONBARI 4.35 & ROUGE DE L'QUEST 5.10. The Bowen/Jones duo looks the best angle into the meeting and they will surely ride a winner or two!

OWNERS: None of the top 5 owners at the course have a runner tomorrow.

RED FLAG: Interesting that Jack Tudor (11%) is top rider at Ffos Las this season scoring 6-19 for 32% (+7.95) and has recently found some form after a miserable winter. He does not ride here tomorrow, but goes to Fakenham as stable jockey for David Pipe to ride JILAIJONE 4.25 in a Class 3 Handicap worth over £10,562 and this looks a job of work! Trainer David Pipe scores 7-19 for a big 37% (+6.50) at this course, and of those beaten 5 have finished second meaning he shows 12-19 at Fakenham finishing first or second for 63%. TRH is suggesting Pipe's horses are there to win, with a horse who has finished second on five occasions but just one win!

Tudor teams up with former boss Christian Williams to ride 4 of his runners which includes CAVE ARTICLE 1.10, STRINGTOYOURBOW 1.45, BALLYRASHANE 2.25 & FEVER DREAM 3.05.

I walked the course at Ffos Las on the day it opened for racing and there’s no doubt about it - it’s a beautiful set-up, you can’t help being impressed. I don’t think it gets the backing from some people that it deserves, because all the current jocks - Flat and jumps - say good things about it. The jumping lads reckon the fences are a fair test - not too stiff, but no pushover - and it’s grand to ride. The one worry about it is that the going can become extreme. When it gets properly soft, it can be really hard work - Mick Fitzgerald
