The Racing Horse takes a comprehensive look at the biggest race in Wales - 2019 CORAL WELSH GRAND NATIONAL. It is the highlight over the festive period and returns to Chepstow Racecourse on Friday 27th December 2019.

CHEPSTOW RACECOURSE TEMPLATE

The prerequisite to winning this race means the winner will need to be heavily laden with stamina and the racing trends support this view! It is always hard work racing over the 3m5½f distance with 20 runners jumping 22 fences on ground that is usually tacky to heavy!

The race has a habit of throwing up some real stars of the British jumping scene, most recently the 2016 winner Native River and since then jockey James Bowen, whose career has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months who is now forging a great relationship with trainer Nicky Henderson.
