WHAT are RACECOURSE TEMPLATES?

  • COURSE: Left handed, undulating. An oval-shaped track, about two miles in extent, with a run-in of five furlongs. While not an out-and-out galloping course, owing to the pronounced undulations, the track puts the emphasis on stamina almost regardless of ground. All races up to a mile are run on the straight course.
  • BEST CATEGORY: Best performing category albeit from a smaller sample are 3yo winning favourites in non-handicaps which show 25 winners from 48 runners for a big 52% strike rate and a level stake profit to SP of +1.46.
  • FAVOURITES IN HANDICAPS: Winning favourites in handicaps fare slightly better than the national average.
  • TRAINERS: We note the top 5 trainers at the course perform above their national averages, this represents an edge/value when they have runners at this course. Top trainer David Evans has 6 entries as we go to post but Tony Carroll has 7 entries. William Haggas has 2 entries but longest traveller is Karl Burke who sends 2 on the 222 mile trip. Might be worth a look at the trainers named. Richard Hannon shows 4-74 for 5%.
  • JOCKEYS: Most top jockeys are needed at York but the hard working Luke Morris has 5 booked rides, and should win a race.

JASON WEAVER on CHEPSTOW

Chepstow takes a fair bit of getting. Because it’s so up hill and down dale, stamina has to come into play and it’s also worth noting that the straight is quite long, meaning that some horses start to race a lot earlier than is ideal. If you’re on one that wants to make the running, for example, you’ll often get a few keen to take you on earlier than you might like, so patience is vital for a jockey. Long-striding horses can often go well on the straight track but, as it’s quite stiff, they definitely need to get home

CHEPSTOW has 32 meetings annually, both flat and jump racing, please visit their website for more details.
