CONFIGURATION: Lingfield’s left-handed all-weather track is laid out inside the turf track and, measuring just less than a mile and a quarter round, is essentially sharp in nature. This, along with how the races often pan out ensures that stamina is rarely at a premium and strong-travelling types with a turn of foot are often favoured. For nearly half its length, the round course is flat, then rising to the summit of a slight hill after which there is a downhill turn to the straight.
SURFACE: Lingfield AW Racecourse uses Polytrack, the most popular choice of surfaces for AW tracks in the UK. Trainers prefer Polytrack over everything else because it is the fairest surface for horses to race on. This fast surface has little jar with virtually no kickback, meaning horses can enjoy their racing, and because it quickly regains its shape after racing there is less stress on tendons.
WINNING FAVOURITES: Winning favourites at Lingfield over the past 5 years show 725-2039 for 35.56% and a loss of -212.76. All Racecourse Templates are relevant, contextual and pertinent, but using and focusing on TRH figures, members have a real edge at Lingfield and we urge members to cut and paste the following for reference: WINNING FAVOURITES in NON-HANDICAPS score 269-553 for a MASSIVE 49% strike rate and a LEVEL STAKE PROFIT of +£17.96 to a £1 stake. Winning favourites in handicaps show 456-1486 for 31% (-230.75), this shows a huge differential of 18% in strike rate and £248.72 in stake returns.
By the way, check out these results for winning favourites in non-handicaps on the Lingfield AW this season, from a £1 stake to SP:
2yo 5-10 50% -1.70
3yo 16-28 57% +4.07
4yo+ 15-26 58% +8.20
Total 36-64 56% +10.57
NOTE: There are 5 meetings coming up quickly before 4 December 2024 so a good time to check out our processes. TRH has made a 2024 profit of +17.29 with just a little filtration, and without any creative staking. The 5-year figures are proof this strategy will not suffer fatigue.
TRAINERS: Standout trainer at the course is Andrew Balding (15%), he scores 58-257 for a big 23% and a level stake profit of (+71.83), which is +8% above his national average. He is not in red hot form however showing 0-25 over the last 12 days. Nevertheless, his entries must be processed, they include SUN DANCER GIRL 12.05, SOUL DANCE 12.35, JET BLACK 1.05 & MARCELLA 240
Roger Varian (20%) is another trainer who does well at this course showing 40-152 for 26% (-3.60) so +6% above his national average, he has 3 runners including DUE WEST 12.35, BOBBY BENNU 1.37 & CELL SA BEELA 2.40
JOCKEYS; David Probert (12%) takes advantage of the Balding factor at the course, and shows 89-579 for 15% (+108.55) so rides at +3% above his national average. He has 6 rides, they include TIANITA 12.05, SOUL DANCE 1.05, JET BLACK 1.05, BLUE PRINCE 1.37, DYNAMISTE 2.07 & MARCELLA 2.40.
Luke Morris (9%) also has 6 rides including EQUULEUS STAR 12.05, TANMAWWY 1.37, LINGUA FRANCE 2.07, SATTWAA 2.40, HITCHED 3.15 & RECON MISSION 3.50. Whilst we cannot spot an obvious winner he will probably go close on one.
Jamie Spencer (12%) is on the cold list and now stands at 0-42 over the past 56 days, he has 3 rides at Lingfield tomorrow and looks to go 0-45. TRH has never known him to have such figures before, so we intend to keep our eye on him and follow then filter!
OWNERS: Power Geneva (14%) have an interesting runner in WALKING ON CLOUDS 3.50 trained by John Butler and ridden by Kaiya Fraser (3) and look to have a place chance at least.
RED FLAG 1: Godolphin (25%) are easily top owners at Lingfield scoring 40-138 for 29% (-5.99) over the past 5 years. Their all time Lingfield figures show 208-665 for 31% (+53.52) which is an amazing number and something we can work with. Adding to the strength of the figures further, we note 336-665 for 51% finish first or second making this a fabulous tool for FORECAST backing! The record between Godolphin and Charlie Appleby scores 1180-4617 for 26% and on the AW surfaces 419-1357 for 31%, This combination have 2 runners tomorrow in PRESENT TIMES 12.25 & CHARMING LIFE 1.05. TRH is on with 2 bet singles ref Charlie Appleby, and a set of creative forecast betting stakes as per the owners Godolpin. Appleby's all time figures at this course show 80-246 for 33% (+18.30)
RED FLAG 2: David Probert rides the Lingfield Racecourse as well as anyone and below he articulately lists his view on how to ride the course below. He is just 7 winners away from completing 200 winners at the course. TRH is not saying this will happen in 2024, but in the first couple of months for sure in 2025, probably January. However, he has ridden 198 winners at Wolverhampton so just a win double away from doing that in the next meeting or two. Be assured, jockeys will be aware of their exact figures and so will the trainer's who employ them. Currently the jockey is 0-28 over the last 12 days. TRH is following and filtering Probert's runners from here, and it could happen on a bigger priced winner. Below shows the jockey's numbers from his top 3 racecourses:
Kempton 239-2099 11% -181.35 Wolverhampton 198-1839 11% -320.03 Lingfield 193-1538 13% -144.73

How to ride the Lingfield AW Racecourse - David Probert
Our iIt's probably the most idiosyncratic of the AW tracks because of the hill. It's pretty level from the mile and a quarter start and down the back, but from the 4 furlong to the 2 furlong poles you're running down that hill. Some horses don't handle the hill which makes it a tricky track to ride; many of the jockeys will start to make their move at about the three - halfway down the hill, on the home bend - trying to get some of their rivals off balance. That's where you'll see most of the manoeuvres, jostling for position, trying to either get an inside run or slingshot off the bend if a little wider.
In 5f & 6f handicaps, you want to be handy, and perhaps ideally with a middle draw to cut the corner a little. That gives you the most options. They're both tricky starts, the five in a little chute on the crown of the bend, and the six just before the bend on the main track. Inside draws need to be very quick away and edge right a bit to get a position, because if you don't you'll be in a pocket and it'll be hard. The 6f trip is a bit more forgiving because you've got half a furlong or so before the bend, but you still need to jump and get a position quickly.
But over longer trips, certainly beyond a mile, it's very hard to make the running and win. I try and sit third or fourth, and one off the rail. If you're on the rail you can get boxed in as horses vie for positions and then you have to wait for them to pass before making your run. It's certainly a tricky track and one where you need to be in the right place at the right time.
Lane wise, it's pretty fair in the straight: I've seen horses coming up the rail to win, and horses fanning wide and winning, so there doesn't seem to be any advantage to one or other path in the last quarter. And the kickback is mild, probably the least of all the all weather circuits.
